Whats the best way to remove old headers?
I got a complete exhaust setup headers to the magnaflow 3 inch. But I am hesitant to start because even though driver side looks easy, how do I reach the bolts on the pass side header? Whats the best easiest way to do it? Also , should I use WD40 to unfreeze the bolts or are they easy to come off? Thanks!!!

always use some sort of lubricant. 3-36 wd-40 and my header bolts were 3/8 head so i just used a small 3/8 wrench. couldnt get a socket on it. it took forever lol.

So u just went for it :-) Cool, I am afraid I wouldnt be able to reach the bolts on the pass side. Did you remove the AIR first? How about the heater hoses?

i just took the heater hoses loose. the air was a pain to get around but you can get it. getting the header out really sucks and be prepared to be a little "forceful" just be patient and try not to brake anything lol. just go for it, youll figure out how to get them off! good luck.

i just did this last saturday. the pass side is easiest from underneath. i only had to disconnect the heater valve and pull out the dipstick. to make it easier for you on pass side also take out the spark plugs and starter. but sure jump right in. i had never done it before. only took the day to get them in. love it love it. do it yourselfers rock.

or they about fall off. My old headers were leaking, and the bolts were very loose.

The bolts that about fell off were from the previous owners work. I plan on going with percys gaskets and stage 8 locking bolts later. Need some more money...

Re: Whats the best way to remove old headers?
Just finished putting mine in... Wasn't easy LOL couldn't get the pass side one in. I used regular bolts from Home Depot. Is that a really bad idea? I asked a mechanic I know, he told me it does not matter. Wanted to do everything myself too, but I can't put in the exhaust pipe (between mufler and cat) , car is not high enough. How did you do it? I have a new pipe and really dont want to cut it. Going to the shop tomorrow to get the car higher on a lift.
Also while removing old headers, I had to remove valve covers too. Anyone else had to do this? And yes I also removed spark plugs. I noticed that my dipstick tube rusted thru in the middle, is it tough to replace it?

there is a gun lube called break free. it is so fine a lube that it actually absorbes into the metal. you can spray it on and actually see it go in and the metal darkens like old wood when you put water on it.
go to the gun shop and get some. spray it on and wait a few hours then put some more on.
it will work better than anything else on the market.

Re: Whats the best way to remove old headers?
ca[maro] there was a guy on this board that made a wrench for those tight places, and specifically plugs.
he cut a complete notch into the socket, taking out about 1/5th so that the socket would fit over plug top but still fit over the bolt part. maybe something like that could help.
sort of like a box wrench with a rachet on it.

my dad has made wrenches like that, cutting part of it so it would fit. its obviously a really good idea and it would take a lot less time if i had a ratchet lol.
