Will this set up be good for my car?

I am looking at a set of slp headers. they have 3" collectors, but the ypipe is only 2.5". I would rather have a 3"y but the car will have no cat, & a very unrestricted muffler to help with flow. It will also be turned down before the axle.

So I will have the headers, 2.5y, 3" pipe turned down before the axle, & a muffler. Will this work on my lo3 when i get it up to 3-400hp? Only reason I have to ask is that the pipe would go from big, to small, then back to the bigger pipe. Please help guy's. This deal will not last long. In fact I am buying it asap anyways, but please do send info.

In opinion it should work. the only thing i would say is if you don't have emissions. Then crap out that cat. My opinion i shouldn't think there would be any if all difference in it. sounds like a good idea what ur doing pics

Ya no cat is going on the car. Lil l03 needs every ounce of power it can get. I will be removing the air, & egr too. I also have a lt1 cam to go in. Just picking up the deals when I run into them. slp headers for $50 is pretty good. I will need to learn how to chip burn too. I know zero about that as of now.

But what about the 2.5y? That's the stock y right? Think ill hold off for a 3"y. The 3"y will take some time though, cause I have very lil money right now, so pics will be a while. Any advise about a stock car, or truck that has a 3"y? I could go junk yard shopping if I knew what to look for. Maybe a diesel powered truck will have the y im looking for?

I think you can use the Y pipe off of a tbi truck. It's a little less restrictive than the f-body but it's not 3". You keep it up and you are going to have to dive into chip burning pretty quick. lol

yea i believe stock is 2.5 for the y. Are you using stock manifolds. the reason i ask it there is a flowtech y pipe that goes either stock or the flowtech headers which are shortys that i think is 3 inch y. but do not quote me on that. summit racing or jc whitney i seen it check there you might find what you want. or yes junk yards would might have something if they have a camaro there check it out b/c sometimes they are modified when the owners had the car you might get lucky.

The headers are here, local. The guy had just added them to his stock set up, but I want all 3", so im looking for the cheapest way to get the y pipe.

OK well I am going to the junk yard on Wed. I will take a look then. As far as finding one on a Camaro, that would be very lucky. That's why I was hoping they used one stock on something that would work. I hope to get into burning quick too but that in itself will cost so Ill have ot leave parts on the shelf for a while. I might post later to see if someone local can help me out with that.

Ya right now The whole car is stock. I am looking to change that asap for pennys on the dollar, so its going to take a while. I see the only y that summit has with 3"-3" is the hooker y. Its $250. But hey; when I look up the 1989 half ton truck With the 350 or the 305 it shows the flow tech y that has 3"-3". Its $150. Wonder if it would work? Ill take a look when I go to the junk yard. They have gobbs of half ton trucks. They only had two Camaro's that where stripped to the gills, two weeks ago.

with 3 inch y pipe your going to have many problems going around the oil pan, but I have seen it done once on this board by someone. Other than that a 2.5 inch y pipe is enough for most applications. I am running a 2.5 inch y pipe and making 470 horse at the motor. The stock y pipe is either 2 or 2.25 inchs. But if you look at the bends in them, you can tell there is a restriction right there.

well the dude has a 2.5 y. Only thing is that he has not called today like he said he would, & will not answer me now. Hope he didn't blow me off. So If he does I need to know for sure about the stock y pipe. One said its 2.5. One said its smaller. More votes?

but if you look at the design you would notice it would not flow as good as an aftermarket one

Re: Will this set up be good for my car?

OK guy's I need your input on an exhaust set up that I found, & I need it asap before I miss another deal. I found a set of long headers. 3" collectors, Into a 3" y pipe, into 3" single pipe to the rear axle.

All I would need is the muffler. I can get the set up for about $50. The only thing is no o2 bung, & two of the pipes are crushed for clearance. o2 bung is no problem. I can have one welded in. The worst of the two pipes is about 50% smashed. The second is about 25% smashed. My car is stock, so im thinking it will still kick as s to get this set up.

I wonder that since the headers are smashed, will it cause any trouble in the motor, since the headers wont flow equal, out of all 8 pipes? Its a tbi, so no worry about the car running rich. If I get the headers I will have to do this first thing in the morning so I don't miss out on them. Or should I miss out on them?

Re: Will this set up be good for my car?

striker - i am using hooker 2055 with a 3 inch y pipe and my muffler is a 31 inch chambered exhaust 3 inch internal diameter and 3 1/2 inch external. 85.00 to my front door. i am using it for the mid pipe to run through then over the rear end and out. very few bends and lots of open pipe. i am keeping it just one pipe no pretend duals - no one will see it anyway.

You got a good deal. So with the one pipe being smashed, like that (50% loss of flow at the one cylinder) Will it hurt anything?
