Cut out: Weld or clamp?

...I was looking around at getting a cutout and i see that some are weld in, some are clamp in. Any reason a clamp in wouldn't work? ...I can do that in my driveway, as opposed to the weld in.

thoughts, opinion, spare change....???

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Cut out: Weld or clamp?

Hey Chris,

I have a QTP cutout that can be welded or clamped. I had it expanded to 3" i.d. to slip over my hooker Y. Then i used these lap joint clamps and so far the two miles i drove to the paint shop they worked out well lol. I believe IROCthe5.7Ltre suggested them to me. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I also did some searching and found that the style below is NO GOOD. They come with some goo to help them seal and people say the screws will strip out when you try to get them to seal. The ones i posted above lots of people like.

The summit clamps didn't work well for me (like the one above). I had great success with these: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30733/10002/-1

The first picture i posted and this one are the same. They both have the same "torqtite" part number.

That's weird they have the same part number. The Jegs version had a much bigger transition in the middle. You can see it in the pictures also. That's what made it seal better for me.

Re: Cut out: Weld or clamp?

always weld if you can... the options avaible i would weld. I've never had goodluck with clamps. I mean it'll work but you'll probably get a small leak...
