blue smoke out exhaust

brand new 383, thought i broke it in enough driving it up and down my hill. and had it idling and reving for a few weeks trying to tune it. i finnally got it out today and about 20min into driving the engine got a vibration/noise thats constant. i brought it home and noticed i have light blue/white smoke coming out the driver side mostly and alil on the pass side (i have true duals with xpipe) so does that mean the issue is on the pass or driver side if the smoke is mostly coming out the driver side? its not a ton but it will fill up a tent kinda if u give it a min.

if you want to kno more bc im not gona post it all here i just started a thread in general engine tech, look here for more specs. i figure im burning oil due to the rings not seating or something like that bc i kno blue smoke means burning oil.

Re: blue smoke out exhaust

Yes, you are burning oil, could be many things, valve stem oil seals, or guides, probably neither of those since you just put it together correct?

Probably the rings though, but the reason why the rings are causing the smoking is what you need to look into, how long have they been run?

Re: blue smoke out exhaust

well i think i found out wat it is.... i pulled the valve covers off pass side first (started it again and pass side cover was alil louder than the driver) i pulled it off to find the #8 cylinder intake valve rocker stud just sheered off. rocker was laying on the head. called skips white performance who sold me the heads and rocker studs and said he never had this happen. i dunno what could have caused this bc the springs he said can handle .720 lift! this was the second set he sent me bc the first were to short for my rockers etc.

so the stud snapped off causing the intake valve to never open, would this cause the blue smoke and oil consumption? thank fully the lifter never came out of the bore and the pushrod didnt bend. there is a light score on the one tip tho (prob where it hit the rocker or is a wear mark where it sat in the rocker cup. the guy said if it was on the intake valve it would cause something and suck oil in? is he right. to me intake closed means no air coming into cylinder but with the exhaust valve still opening it was prob sucking in air that way. how would that cause oil to be consumed? vacume in the cylinder causing oil to be sucked past the rings? idk.

heads are brand new btw... came assembled all i did was screw on rocker studs etc. car had 18miles on it driving up and down my street and prob like 1-2hrs of idling and throttle stabs in park trying to tune it.

if i was getting blue smoke and now this rocker stud issue, could this have ruined my piston ring sealing? i will have the new studs in prob like 2 days, they guys is now sending me a 3rd set, this set is a manley set, the older ones he sent were something like moretech performance... which is CR@P apparently.

check other thread for the pic.
