AUGH!! HELP!! engine smoke

brand new 383 HSR, engine in sig. has been run many times since its installment like 4-5weeks ago but has never been out for a real "drive". ive driven it on my street (which is a hill) trying to break in the engine, accels and decels etc but its also idled and been reved a WHOLE lot in my driveway trying to tune it. ive never really had engine smoke of any color during all this. Im also breaking in the new tranny i rebuilt.

took it out today cuz i finally got my inspection. start up was great, driving was great after 20min of driving, i started getting this "vibration" engine sounded different. Like it had a weird ribration that was constant even when the engine was running. so i drove it home and now im getting a light blue/white smoke i think outa the exhaust. i mean its not a CLOUD but it can fill up a tent if u give it a min. so i let it sit and i looked for leaks etc and then started it up again after a 10min sit, started up and it seemed ok, engine still sounded alil weird but no smoke at first, after a min the smoke started again.

WAT THE HELL!!!! now i kno u have to break the motor in which i thought i did but idk. the engine has moly rings "sportsman from JE" and the engine was bored and honed for moly rings.

the only MOD i had to do from my rotating kit was to grind the rods/rod bolts bc they hit my XFI280 cam. rods where scat forged 4340 rods and 3/8 cap screw ARP bolts. i grided the rods so i had pretty close to .050" clearance on them.

WATS THE DEAL? blue smoke means im burning oil so did the rings not seat? am i suckin oil through the new patriot heads? wats causing the engine vibration? im not showing any knocks on my scanner or anything. ive noticed alot of valvetrain noise tho under my valve covers.... not too much but it doesnt sound like my dads 305tpi and that has flat tappets. mine is obviously roller cam, with NEW everything. 1.6rr, comp cams pushrods, new speedpro lifters etc. heads are brand new patriots with spring upgrade for .6 lift with roller cams and vitton seals etc. im pretty sure i adjusted the rockers correctly i even took the covers off after it was running a few times and checked the rockers, tightened a few a smidge.

ive also noticed the majority of the smoke comes out the drive side (i run true duals with xpipe) so does that mean the issue is on the pass or drive side then? sry for the long post but this is REALLY Upseting!

my main worries are the rings arent seated, i bent a valve (dunno how with forged dish pistons) my crank smacked the cam lobe. it was while i was driving this happened, heard a clunk i think but my suspension clunks alil so idk if thats it.

Re: AUGH!! HELP!! engine smoke

I had something occur somewhat similiar. No bluish tint but the vibration and noise was something simliar. I only had white smoke. Pulled # 2 plug and coolant spilled out!! I didn't bend a rod but the engine started running real rough and it ended up being a warped cylinder head / bad head gasket install on my part. Just something to check. Pull the plugs and check them to be safe. Its a quick and easy check right ?

Re: AUGH!! HELP!! engine smoke

well i think i found out wat it is.... i pulled the valve covers off pass side first (started it again and pass side cover was alil louder than the driver) i pulled it off to find the #8 cylinder intake valve rocker stud just sheered off. rocker was laying on the head. called skips white performance who sold me the heads and rocker studs and said he never had this happen. i dunno what could have caused this bc the springs he said can handle .720 lift! this was the second set he sent me bc the first were to short for my rockers etc.

so the stud snapped off causing the intake valve to never open, would this cause the blue smoke and oil consumption? thank fully the lifter never came out of the bore and the pushrod didnt bend. there is a light score on the one tip tho (prob where it hit the rocker or is a wear mark where it sat in the rocker cup. the guy said if it was on the intake valve it would cause something and suck oil in? is he right. to me intake closed means no air coming into cylinder but with the exhaust valve still opening it was prob sucking in air that way. how would that cause oil to be consumed? vacume in the cylinder causing oil to be sucked past the rings? idk.

if i was getting blue smoke and now this rocker stud issue, could this have ruined my piston ring sealing? i will have the new studs in prob like 2 days, they guys is now sending me a 3rd set, this set is a manley set, the older ones he sent were something like moretech performance... which is CR@P apparently.

its def a blue tint and not really white. seems like this was the cause. and pulling the plugs on my engine is a PITA!!! headman LT headers and striaght spark plug ports are not fun!! i will pull them and clean them tho. they are accel u-groove plugs. on the stock head they were fine with the headers but these heads changed it where i had clearance issues compared to stock.

is this rocker the only source of my issues? could it really cause all this!?! augh

Re: AUGH!! HELP!! engine smoke

yea thats wat im saying!

the guy is sending a whole new set, manley to be exact. he said the old inventory they used to have was something called moretech or motortech performance or something like that. i would love to have ARPs but they dont use them so hes sending the new ones for free. i cant really complain with that.
