Re: Headers Shortys or Fullsize

well i'd say it also depends on your engine/power goals and if you're adding any chassis stiffening (SFCs) or drivetrain parts later down the road that could get in the way with those long tubes.
and of course also depends on what kind of money you're looking to throw at it. personally, i think the hooker 2055 are a very decent set of shorty headers with an awesome 3" outlet y-pipe. after all, these do have a CARB EO so there gotta be something to keep noise/emissions down with these -> if you don't need the AIR pipes just cut them and weld them shut. i will also recommend cutting the ball flange down about 1/2 - 3/4" to further enhance flow.

Shorties should be plenty for most builds as long as the primaries are big enough to support your power goals.

I got a set of Headman 68460's with the Camaro i just bought, even though they are long tubes they aren't equal length so IMO it's not worth all the hassle for those. I'm not sure about the other LT's though.

i think you can personally get a bit more torque and power out of LT's but the ground clearance is whats gonna kill you. i have headman LTs on mine. with UMI SFCs and have no problems. But the Ground Clearance is what sux. but its only a weekend car.

just giving

Honestly it depends on your exhaust goals and if you plan on running sfc's or not. If your wanting to maintain a semi stock exhaust setup shorty's will work wonders as most come with y pipe adapters to fit right in place of our old manifold and y pipe. If your looking at doing a custom exhaust as in true duals, I would recommend long pipes less bends in the pipes and easier starting points. Now if your gonna run sfc's then i recommend putting those in place first, then running your exhaust, if you do it the other way around you'll run into clearance issues later

Everyone says that you give up ground clearance with longtubes, but I dont think so. I have longtubes on my Camaro and I actually have more ground clearance than my brother who has shorties. I think its more in how you route your exhaust. I have never scraped my headers or exhaust on anything and my turndowns were only a few inches off the ground. I'm redoing my exhaust now and will have a lot of ground clearance when I'm done. And thats with true dual 2.5 inch with an X pipe.

Agreed. Mine had plenty of clearance with the LT's.. and it was a V8 on V6 springs to boot.

I'm sure your front coil-over conversion and k member helped. Unless you did them after the long tubes...

The coilover was done during the build of the car along with the longtubes. The K-member was after though. I do have my springs at roughly factory hight right now but they still tuck up against the body and dont really hang down. I dont see how the K-member would help though.
