custom exhuast.

ok i was talking to my mother about exhuast choices for the camaro. And she would rather buy everything at one place and she would rather have a shop install the exhaust (dont blame her) plus she doesnt like buying online. So i was thinking instead of going with the tsp rumbler or magnaflow to get a custom exhuast and maybe have it shooting out behind the tires (is this legal?) Or am i better with a regular style exhaust? I was also going have a cat installed along with the system. What should i go with? How much would I expect to spend? Or is it cheaper to get the tsp rumbler or the magnaflow with a high flo magnaflow cat and have a shop install it other then a competly custom exhuast? If i was to go custom what kind of muffler should i go with and what about a cat? Thanks.

Re: custom exhuast.

i would have the shop order a pre made system and let them install it. i had a shop custom make a system and they did a bad job. the side exits may be illegal. i got a ticket for "improper exhaust" once. i read the law book, it said the exhaust system must extend past the passenger compartment trunk included.

that depends on your local laws... the Mustang Roushe I believe had the exhaust just behind the rear tires.... or so I think.. ... shop around go visit local exhaust shops, some you can tell that their main focus is on performance cars, these shops will have a good exhaust tech that will build a good exhaust... by the way I wouldn't install anything spectacular like true duals or 3 inch exhaust, because the car will lose low end torque... if you had a 350 with some upgrades, then by all means install a 3 inch exhaust...

As far as being legal, you will have to check local laws. Here in Florida basically anything goes. If its real loud they may get you for that. I drove my Camaro home from where I built it at to my house on Christmas eve with open headers.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that he was an exhaust expert?

well if i wasnt going go with custom exhuast i was going buy the magnaflow that is 320 or the tsp that is 240. if i have them say order the magnaflow they will probaly charge me about 500 for just the parts and shipping.

problem is thats stock so there probaly safe with getting away with it but im also not sure if they even do have side exhuast. also do you think people would really assume im another punk teenager with a side thirdgen since they might consider the side exhaust kiddy like? well isnt the magnaflow a 3inch? and the car wont stay to stock power wise for long after exhuast i'll probaly get the plenum, runners, intake, and heads ported along with other stuff but depends if i have started driving yet.
