My catback fell off. What does it matter?

There was a rust break right about where you would connect an aftermarket cat-back system to the straight pipe when I bought my camaro. It finally bit the dust and I started rushing to pick the right system to replace it but then I thought, what does it matter?

Basically right now I go from stock iron exaust manifolds to the y-pipe to the cat to a straight pipe that heads back and cuts off just past my rear axle. Legality reasons aside, what would change if I got a nice top of the line cat-back system and installed it?

P.S. In case I'm using the term "cat-back" incorrectly, this is what I mean fell off of my car...

Not that brand\model specifically, but that general 'thing.'

Putting it on will amke it so your car doesnt sound like a super loud log truck going down the road. That's most of it. Mufflers sound better.

The exhaust channels noxious fumes to the rear of the car so that they don't filter into the cabin and endanger the driver. I'd replace, if for no other reason than that. The cat back is so called because it's designed to be placed after the cat, thus cat "back" (intermediate pipe, muffler, tail pipes).

or if you happen to like the sound get a 45 degree bend and turn it out from under the car to prevent the fumes from knocking you out while sitting at a stoplight or making you dizzy and endangering yourself and others

Well, the break has the pipe currently ending past the rear axle, but if I decide to stick with no cat-back ill definitely do this just to be safe.

Just replace it... Walker sells every piece as stock replacements. They're available at any autoparts store. Mandrel bent pipes you can install in your driveway with basic hand tools, and cost less then $200 for every piece from the cat back. If nothing else it keeps you from looking and sounding like an inbred hillbilly who's too cheap or simply too stupid to be courteous to the people around him.

I don't really understand wtf that's supposed to mean. At the moment the car isn't any louder than any other car unless its at wot.

If you have the money Id do the 3in. cat back with a high flow cat ( Magnaflow cat). One of the first modifications alot guys do including myself is to open up the stock exhaust and intake with a system that breathes better. And sounds better IMO.

wow, just because someone has a loud car that makes them an inbred hillbilly, thats F'ed up, So I am to assume that your car runs quieter than a mouse in slippers or do you your self fall into the inbred hillbilly category? Or are you just someone that needs to talk down to people due to some sort of inferiority complex stemming from getting picked on in highschool?

Had to vent a little there my apologies to every one else on the board

Is the one I linked too in my original post the 3inch high-flow magnaflow you're talking about? It's the one I've been thinking of getting.
