I've heard that hooker's aerochamber is pretty tame at idle but has a nice bark to it at wot

I have the Hooker Aerochamber and I like it - it's pretty quiet at idle, has nice noise when you expect it, flows really well, and is pretty inexpensive.

Borla is fairly quiet at idle with mild bark at upper RPM. Kinda heavy and expensive.

dynomax.
nice tone at idle and dosent draw any attention until i floor it.
i had a flowmaster and it sounded like i was doing a hundred just driving normal.and it had a horrible drone and it was worse with the tops off.

Sounds like you want a stock exhaust lol
The flowmaster force 2 catback was pretty quiet when I had it on my car and sounded good.

Re: in need of quiet exhaust..
My http://www.texas-speed.com one sounds like you are wanting. I have a LS1 cat-back Rumbler on my L98.
At cruise, there is barely a sound at all. Under slight acceleration & you know its there, but still not obnoxious at all. Go WOT and you KNOW it is there. Still not obnoxiously loud, but most definately know it is there.
Video taken at 170,000 miles, stock manifolds, Magnaflow hi-flow cat & the Texas Speed & Performance LS1 Rumbler cat back I listed above. Since my windows were down, you can hear all the wind blowing too. And no back seats at all, so that reduces potential sound barrier by just a tad, maybe.

Re: in need of quiet exhaust..
I have a SLP 2otL cat-back on my bolt-on LT1 swap. Its a B-body LT1 so the compression is about the same as an L98 or typical iron headed SBC. Its pretty quiet, you can't hear it over the other cars at the line, and once past the 1/8th mile my car is near silent.

Here's a sound clip of my LT1 going from zero to about 80mph, windows down so some sound is reflected from the wall. The whining noise you hear is actually my power steering pump, its a bit loud. http://home.comcast.net/~thirdgen89g...l_wot80mph.mp3
B-body LT1, iron headed 9.5:1 compression I think, B-body cam (smaller than L98 cam)
Moroso CAI
Hooker 2055 headers, SLP 2otL catback.
