Had mine done at a local shop for 225, flowmaster 80 series, from the cat back, had a straight pipe put in instead of the cat since theres no emmisions here where I live, its obviously not the best exhaust, but pretty cheap and I love how mean it sounds

Hey buddy, if your looking at the 16829 Magnaflow system, your in luck. I just got mine in the other day, and gee goley does it look good. Everything in stainless makes it look great. If you havent seen actual pictures of it yet, other than those advertisment pictures, heres one on eBay...Magnaflow...I got mine on eBay for 300. Looks better in person. Just bought my cat from Bandit. Good company to work with, fast shipping and tracking number is clutch.

Not too sure, I'm sort of a beginner myself. But they do have a dyno sheet on their site that says 18hp/15lbs, for just the catback. I guess it all depends on what you had on there before. Check these videos from Brisk...Magnaflow...his Z28 is probably what it will sound like on close to stock cars. The IROC has too much work done too it for us, so ours should be much quieter.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
Well, you should definitly feel the difference after you install it. As I said before, I am in no way qualified to answer those power questions. Brisk's videos got me to buy the Magnaflow. The IROC sounds especially badass. Even a quarter of that sound would be good for me. 320 is a steal for an all stainless, quality built, catback.

The IROC has a ton of mods to it, so there is no way our cars will sound like that. Plus you got the 305, so that is going to limit the sound as well. Just to make sure, your going to get the 93441 cat from Magnaflow, right? Just got mine in from Bandit, and it is just as nice as the catback.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
From what I hear the TSP Rumbler sounds really nice. Problem is with you, is that since you want something to withstand the weather, I would go with the stainless. Stainless will start rusting in some time, but it will take a lot longer than the steel. For 80 bucks to upgrade everything to stainless, and comes with polished tips, you cant go wrong with the Magnaflow, unless you want your exhaust to be loud.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
Well......You act as if it would suddenly rot out within a few months. It is no different than any other brand of steel exhaust, including a factory steel exhaust & I doubt the TSP Rumbler is stainless steel.

As for power gains? Dunno. Never dyno'd a car before & after a TSP Rumbler install. It's not like I work for them or am associated in any way, other than that I have one of their systems on my car.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
There is no sense in trying to get power gains out of your exhaust if your running a 305 and it'll be your daily driver. Just try to get something that sounds good, and will look nice, both your own opinion. As long as your replacing an old, worn out system, you'll see gains. For example, if you go from an OEM style exhaust, with crinkles in the piping, to a new, mandrel bent, with performance muffler, you'll be able to tell the difference. The cat is also important, but its all up to you. Whatever you like, stick it on there. Dont worry about power gains, unless you plan on racing at the track.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
Well, Magnaflows flow pretty good compared to other systems. Some others, like Flowmaster, I hear flow like garbage. Then systems like Borla, which is out of your price rance, flow quite well. From what I hear, Hooker systems flow the best, but I am not sure how they sound. Magnaflow is probably the best system you can get for the price, in my opinion. For 320 bucks, you get full 3" Mandrel Bent stainless piping, a nice stainless 3" in, 2 2.5" out muffler, and some polished 3.5" stainless tips, with clamps. Since its a bolt on, and not much work is required other than messing around with the hangers, it'll be less work to install it. In no way am I associated with Magnaflow, but I am already happy about my purchase and the system isnt even on my car. Since your looking for a good sounding and flowing, durable system, you cant go wrong with the Magnaflow.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast

btw any idea on how long it would take around to install the magnaflow exhuast and the magnaflow cat if the car is on jackstands. i might just have to get it installed by a shop as i dont really have anyone to help and my exhuast is RUSTED inside out it took me hours of hammering the old muffler off i couldnt imagine the whole cat back. how much could i expect to pay a exhuast shop?

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
Well, if you are just doing the cat back, I'd say about two hours for a noob like us. But since you are doing the headers and the y-pipe too, I would say it would take a full day, if you have everything you need for the job before you start. Probably longer since you've never done it before. For a shop to do it, for just the catback, my guess would be like 100-115ish. But if your looking headers too, thatll raise the price drastically. These are only guesses, so if anyone knows, please chime in.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
My videos will tell you that it isn't loud, except when YOU want it to be & go WOT.
The TSP is a mandrel built system, with a single in/single out Magnaflow muffler, instead of the single in/dual out crossflow Magnaflow muffler.
Get the LT1 Rumbler instead of a LS1 Rumbler (only difference is the intermediate pipe & maybe the hangers) & it would virtually be a direct bolt in. No need to pay for a shop to install it for you.

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
well i watched exhuast clip 2 and it seemed pretty loud but its probarly just where the camera was. what would all be needed to install just a cat back and a cat since mine im pretty sure are just rusted together pipe to pipe and i dont have a saw just basic hand tools.

This is a much better indication of what you'll hear inside. But again, you can hear the difference between cruise & WOT, by watching the tach, which was my whole intention of videoing the way I did. You can see when the tach is sitting steady at 160/1700 rpms, which is my 55-60mph cruising speed, it is pretty quiet.

By 'clip 2', you mean this one? The camera was directly behind the car and I was rapping it out, to get noise out of it so yeah...."loud". Also why the silver car in the backgrounds, alarm went off. I was making it my goal to set it off!

The guy I bought the GTA from put it on, about a month before I bought the car, so I dunno how it was before.
But at 210,000 miles on my stock L98 & I can easily light up my 315s.....My exhaust certainly isn't a restriction!

No. I just know that he liked to park right in front of my apartment with his to sensitive alarm, that went off way too times in the middle of the night.

ok another question, is your exhuast rusty or does it still look half decent? i'll probaly atleast try to once a month get her on jack stands and wash down the undercarage do you think this would somewhat prevent rust? and is there any or much of a weigh diffrence between the magnaflow and the rumbler?

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
Its not like the exhaust will rot that fast. I know the northwest winters can be pretty bad, but these things are made to at least last a few years, before it gets bad. It depends what you categorize daily driver as, but a normal aluminumized steel catback should be good for about five years before it is necessary to replace. The stainless piping should last close to ten, depending on conditions, but you would probably have to replace the muffler on it before the piping goes.

In a real rusty area (snow/ice/salt) I might be inclined to go stainless steel, but around here with our 6 hrs of snow every 5 years? Stainless is too expensive to mess with here, except for the wow factor & "Lookie me.....I have stainless!" crowd.

Dunno the weight of either catback set.

I'll get you pics tomorrow afternoon, of how it looks after 5 years. It was put on it EARLY '06.

Dunno the weight of either catback set.

Well, most every catback will require tweaks to the hangers, even the most expensive ones. But when it comes to cat, the TSP is 3", but I'm not sure how to connect the pipe to the catback pipe or to your y-pipe. The Magnaflow catback would be direct bolt on for the catback, and for the y-pipe if it came with a reducer (mine did). See what Stephen did with his when he posts those pictures. Also are those tips you bought weld in or bolt on? Because thatll be an extra cost if you do get this thing installed at a shop. Magnaflow's system comes with the polished tips that bolt right onto the muffler. Also, before you buy it, check with your local shop on installation prices for what you want to do. I would recommend doing it yourself to not only save money, but to understand what goes into the system and if you have future problems, you can diagnose them.

I won't be able to get it up high & get real clear pictures showing much. No way to get my car real high, other than just my home made drive-on ramps.

A shop did mine, so I dunno. But I do notice that TSP lists the same part # for a LT1 cat back & a LS1 cat back. I've always heard the intermediate pipes were different, but maybe not that different after all?

Re: were to find cheap exhuast
The slip-togethers RARELY slip back apart. The way the u-bolt tightens down, it usually crimps the outer pipe down so tight it crushes into the inner pipe, so that they are merged. Between that & any rust that might have formed between them? It isn't very likely to slip apart. Got a sawzall?
If it all rusty & getting replaced anyways, just hack whatever makes it easier to get out.
As for a cat.....Mine is a hi-flow Magnaflow. I see no reason not to get a hi-flow, unless a car is just being built to resell or trade in.

Sawzall with a good metal cutting blade or some circular type, like a 3.5" grinder type tool. I've always just used a sawzall. Just make sure you have a new/good blade, or it'll grab & just shake the pipe back & forth! Been there, done that.

Yeah as long as you have a saw with a strong blade, the job should be easy. Hangers can range from 5 bucks to 65 bucks (the nice ones). Taking off the old exhaust is the easy part. After you take it off, see if you can sand down the undercarriage a little and apply some undercoat so it wont rust. It'll take some time, but it will be worth it. Just make sure you take your time doing the job, cause if you rush, bad things will happen.
