full exhaust

Ok so im getting new exhaust for my birthday. i went and talked to a local shop that does all the work on my families cars and he quoted me around 600 for headers all the way back to tips. is this a good price? also i like realy loud cars. so what is the best glasspack/muffler i could get to make this thing loud.

Re: full exhaust

how are u going to set up your exhaust. single in/dual out, single, true dual or what? and it all depends are how you like your car to sound.
i have slp loudmouths on mine, its pretty loud and cams hard with my cam. alot of people are running dynomax bullets bcuz they are so cheap. i have buddies i run flowmaster super 40s series and they sound good with a decent size cam.

Re: full exhaust

Not a bad price but real loud does not go good with any stock motor much less a 305 TBI. Just my opinion

Re: full exhaust

for my old stock 305 TBI. i had a magnaflow hi flow cat, 2.5 inch single in into a flow master regular 40s series i believe it was. dual out into some stanless steel tips i bought. sounded good while cruising and at idle. pretty good scream under acceleration. not too loud but it was heard.

Re: full exhaust

Its gonna be 2 into 1 into 2. and right now im in college cant really do anything about the fact its a 305 but when i graduate i will be building up the 305 a lil bit. its gonna be my daily driver and i want it to be semi tame faster than it is now but not a track king. honestly i just wanna be louder than ricers and not have that pop pop pop that sum ******* trucks sound like.

Re: full exhaust

why do you wanna be louder then the r1cers? Do you want to be the king of them or something? Why i say this is honestly unless you have some work done to your motor (im not saying just an cai) your car isnt going hang with alot on the street.

Iv said it before and i'll say it again, i think the following is an GREAT setup.

Headers - Hooker 2055's (includes y-pipe)

Cat - magnaflow hi flo

Catback - Magnaflow

The above should help your motor breath quite well and if you feel the need to make your car an bit louder, it'll be as simple as swapping out the muffler (no the magnaflow muffler is NOT restrictive, its actually one of the best flowing you can get)

An decent cam will also help out the sound, most seem to like LT1 cam's, as there cheap and if im not wrong, plentiful.

(buy the cat/catback at bandit exhuast and headers at summit racing)

Good luck!

Re: full exhaust

i take it to the track some and i have a rear end with 373's. i can hang with a lot at the track in the 1/8th. i was beating a 350z in the 1/8 and neck and neck with a challenger rt. i just want it to be loud because i like loud exhaust. like i said after i get out of college it will be faster right now im just wanting a good loud glasspack/muffler because i like the way it sounds. right now i have the manifolds-2 cats-to nothing.

Re: full exhaust

well theres really nothing on the market that is loud and still flows well unless if you want to blow 600+ on borla or gmmg, when magnaflow is 300.

If your looking into upgrading the motor then your going want to have an good flowing exhuast from the get go.

thats just my advice, btw is this an DD?

Re: full exhaust

Im willing to bet you, you will get VERY sick of having an loud exhuast right away.

Again i say just do the setup i mentioned with the magnaflow exhuast and you should like it, and if you think its to quite sell the muffler and buy an diffrent one.

Re: full exhaust

I went with the MagnaFlow cat back this spring and it's a nice compromise. Not so loud as to get a ticket but enough to be noticed. Also, sounds really nice once you hit 4000 rpm or so!

I love the roar coming out of my side pipes. No cats, just straight from header to side pipes so I will take on your bet

Re: full exhaust

That sounds like a good price to me, especially since putting headers on in a driveway on a 3rd gen is a p.i.t.a. A couple things to consider though... i recommend you use the ARP locking bolts for the headers otherwise you'll be reinstalling your headers by the time you get home. The other thing is with an aftermarket y-pipe, hi-flow cat, and cat back system, there is essentially nothing left to gain on a stock motor by installing headers in my opinion.

Re: full exhaust

Quick question for Jon Dyer, I just ordered a new dynomax hi flow cat and magnaflow cat back and y-pipe. Do you have a cat on your exhaust set-up and did the magnaflow system eliminate the interior drone? I'm pulling out the flowmaster cat back that is in the car and cat.

Re: full exhaust

Yes I have a Magnaflow cat. As for the drone, overall the system is a little louder than my previous setup but I wouldn't call it a drone. Besides, if it's not actively snowing the T-tops are off - best anti-drone there is!

Seriously though, I've read a couple of posts of people complaining about Flowmaster drone. I think you'll be happy with the system that you're putting together.
