its a good thing you cant find one. mine fell apart in less then a year. the input and outputs on the muffler are pressed in not welded, and all of them come lose. i had to weld them back together!

Re: what happened to the edelbrock sdt catback

Edelbrock used to make a nice catback in the RPM series if you wanted a setup that followed the stock layout and had stock style tips. Then for some moronic reason they changed the exhaust pipes to massive, full retard, chrome or stainless tips. Of course the pics on Summit and other websites never changed to reflect the chrome tips. Then they changed the muffler...

Now Edelbrock's website shows the old 5672 with a pic of the stock style steel turn downs. If they've gone back to the old style setup, it's a quality piece and fills a niche in the market. It looks stock, fits pretty well, has a nice sound without being obnoxious...

Re: what happened to the edelbrock sdt catback

thanks guys, the stock tips would look alot nicer, whats the differnce between the rpm and the sdt? is the sdt louder? i have a 2 1/2 inch 80 series flowmaster and im just sick of it, i need a lil louder and differnt sound. im really not seeing too many catback systems that are that great nowadays.

Re: what happened to the edelbrock sdt catback

The SDT mufflers are basically a Flowmaster... They're chambered mufflers. The old RPM series muffler was a glass packed turbo muffler with a nice mellow tone that was soft at idle and louder at full throttle without the drone at highway speeds. The RPM series probably flows better, chambered mufflers got popular because they're loud and durable, but they aren't the best for flow.

There are a ton of options for cat-backs. Dynomax offers a couple setups with stock style tips. Just gotta look at the kit contents and make sure the exhaust doesn't neck down where it goes into the muffler.

Flowmaster has a couple different setups, but they all use Flowmaster mufflers.

Magnaflow and Hooker make setups, and you can always use a 4th gen cat-backs muffler and tail pipes with a thirdgen intermediate pipe. There's always the option to piece together a setup with the features you want. Flowmaster and Dynomax both offer 3" intermediate pipes separately. At that point you can add any 3" in/out muffler, or a crossflow muffler, and tail pipes of your choice.

Theoretically... Since Flowmaster has two different pairs of part numbers for the intermediate pipe and over axle pipe, it's anyone's guess which would work better for a custom setup. If you want a cross-flow setup with dual tips on opposite sides, it's probably best to go with the American Thunder I-pipe parts. If you want a single out, or dual on the same side, use the Force II parts. Mixing and matching aftermarket parts raises the chance that something might not match up perfectly, but on paper it should work.

The two piece Dynomax 3" intermediate pipe is the same way. Since it's a piece of an aftermarket cat-back there's no guarantee that it'll match up with another muffler.
