Weld removal help on a Flowmaster 80

I just bought a used muffler off of a friend(flowmaster 80).
The problem is that there is a 3" to 2" reducer (welded on) and i need it out.
So i can replace it with a different reducer.
any ideas on the best way to remove the reducer, without damage to the muffler ?
There is only one 2"-2 1/2" weld that is holding it in place.

Just grind it all out i guess?

basically just cut on the back side of the weld. then remove the pipe thats left inside the outlet/inlet of the muffler get your new reducer or whatever and weld it on!
