Header & Ypipe Q

I have an 1989 305 TBI 700R4. I went snooping into advance and asked what they had available for headers and y pipe; they said only flow-tech, last i knew ricers love these headers... dont know how well it would be safe to buy these for the camaro..

I'm looking to get new headers and ypipe for my car. My cast iron anchors are cracked and starting to leak and i need to replace them soon.. just dont have money to waste on a very nice system. Looking for cheap headers and ypipe , 1 5/8th to 3" with a hi-flow cat and a single slp shotgun muffler then snake around and dual exhaust out with a "y". Thats my idea; just need some cheap headers and ypipe to get.. but dont know what would be a great fit and work?

Flowtechs are cheap, but there's better available.

ok; but explain. What do you mean theres "Better" what would make others better vs these. Bad angles; hard turns, cheap materials, etc. Rather know what im dealing with... I dont have 1k to spend on an exhaust setup, let alone $500 thats much... :\ but this rattling and leaking badly..

Re: Header & Ypipe Q

he means flow-techs are cheap. around $500 or less for hooker 2055's and they come with a matching y pipe. you just need to buy better gaskets then the ones they come with. like percy's. any ?'s about the 2055's just read the sticky at the top. i posted a LOT of install and part #'s stuff when i put mine in almost 2 years ago now. the fitment is great. they are for tpi not tbi but it's all only about the smog adapters i believe. i got rid of the smog stuff and just capped the a.i.r. tubes. good luck.

Is there a set without air tubes? so they would be cheaper? Would you give me the part numbers; because I'd do that then if they are cheaper and come without the air tubes; because im removing mine soon.

2055s only come with air tubes. 2460s don't, but they're more expensive heavier steel, and you have to buy the Y separately.

would it look bad if i clip the air tubes?
I just wanted some clean looking headers.. i thought the tubes would look tacky

Re: Header & Ypipe Q

lots of people have clipped and tack welded the holes. i just put caps on mine. don't even notice. and yes the 2460's are cheaper ligher weight steel and that y pipe that you purchase seperately i have heard doesn't quite fit as well. they are 3 bolt flange collectors i think where as the 2055's are ball and socket. alot better fitment.

hedman makes a pretty decent header with a Y pipe. 160 bucks or so. its nothing fancy but its what sounds like your asking for.

Re: Header & Ypipe Q

I've got got the 2460's, then a y-pipe dumping into a 3" system --
Magnaflow Hi-Flow cat, and stainless cat-back system.
It's been quite an ordeal, which I will document here in more detail
when it's totally finished. But for the topic of where this thread is
going, let me just say that IF you go with the 2460's, spring for
the matching Hooker y-pipe, hopefully minimizing fitment issues.

Good luck.

The following is a direct-fit system: Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

I too cut and welded the tubes. You can see how that turned out in the pics in post #16 of the following link:

Do you have a set for yourself? and your own personal experience?

I might just got with those headers and snip the air tubes since i dont need them.

How long does that cat last for? I bought an oem for mine for STOCK and its only last a little less than 2 years and the seam is rusting.. :\

Also I'm going SLP Loudmouth Shotgun right after the cat and having someone run the pipes... or would there be a pipe kit without the muffler online some where?

thanks everyone for your input!

Re: Header & Ypipe Q

The link from freaky looks like a pretty good deal. I wonder how the
e-bay seller is interacts w/ Summit? At any rate, after my experience,
I will definitely recommend a matched set of components like that.

Freaky, when you do the AC delete, I need some of the wiring harness.
If you're interested in some financial help defraying the header cost,
PM me.
