Flowmaster swapped out for Aerochamber
Well, after 11 years with a crossflow Flowmaster and crimp bent tailpipes I decided it was time for an update. The car is a 1989 Trans Am with a 389 cid small block making about 450 hp and 500 tq. 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust up to the muffler. VERY high flow 3 inch Catco Converter.
So, we removed the Flowmaster and the tailpipes. In went a 3 inch Hooker Aerochamber crossflow with dual 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent tailpipes with dual SLP exhaust tips.
The car sounds a LOT different with the Aerochamber, it sounds smoother, the flowmaster had a pulse like exhaust note whereas the Aerochamber is smoother with much less pulse.
The car runs smoother as well, feels smoother and faster on the road. According to my research the Aerochamber flows 100 cfm better than the flowmaster and I believe it based on the sound. The car sounded meaner with the Flowmaster but definitely runs better with the Aerochamber.
I'm trying to decide if I want to replace the Hedman Ceramic coated Shortie headers with Hooker Long Tubes. If I do that of course will change the exhaust note as well.
The engine will be coming out probably this summer for some long overdue updates including new heads and a new block. Stay tuned!

Re: Flowmaster swapped out for Aerochamber
Yes flowmasters have a very distinct noise in them. I love my dynomax ultraflo's sometimes I wish I had more cab noise. But when I have someone else drive my car it sounds great going down the road.

Re: Flowmaster swapped out for Aerochamber
does it still sound pretty aggressive with the aerochamber, ive been leaning on buying one but still am not 100% sure, would you recommend it?

Sorry no pics. Yes I recommend the Aerochamber over the flowmaster whole heartedly. The neighbors do as well!
Yes it still sounds aggressive, it sounds VERY good!
