Will this just "hook right up"?
So read the post and tell me if this stuff will all just hook up or not. As of right now I'm not thinking about getting the headers unless of course I need to get them.

Also, how hard would it be to drop the old system and put this new one on? According to what this guy says I wont have to do any welding which is +1 for me. For instance if I have to get the headers how hard would it be to take of the manifolds? If I dont, how hard would it be to put the new y-pipe on?

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
I was also just thinking of connecting the end of the y-pipe I already have on the car to the exhaust just to save time if it would work. I was unsure on the headers just because they are 1 1/2 in headers and I hear those can be worse than the manifolds. Plus I figure I could hook up the new muffler on see what it sounds like and if I dont like it then I could easily remove it and then sell it on craigslist again just like that. How long would a process like that take, 10 min?

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
Update: The guy doesnt know what series the muffler is because he got it 12 years ago but he says that it is so loud that he has to turn the car off in drive thrus so they could hear him.

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
the y pipe as you know won't connect to the stock exh manifold. if you aren't going to use the headers then just go get the y back for $50 and only use the axle back portion and put the rest aside for later.
It's $50 man for a flowmaster muffler and tips as well as a y pipe and intermediate pipe!!!!! There is no hesitation or deliberation needed. Grab your phone, call the guy, get directions, grab your wallet, go there, don't insult the guy trying to get a lower price, pay the man, head home and slap on the axle back. $50...............sheesh

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
Anything will interconnect with a little fabrication. You already know that a y pipe that was fab'd to connect to headers won't connect to the junk stock exh manifolds so that wasn't an issue.
So, you were basically asking if a 3 inch pipe, or 2 1/2 pipe will connect to a 3 inch pipe ,2 1/2 inch pipe or even 2 inch pipe.
of course, they're called reducers, adapters, clamps or welding
As you mature you will learn to trust your gut reaction. Your gut was telling you it was a good deal. if it's a flowmaster it should have the name stamped on it.
take a look at what just a muffler costs new

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
one more thing. If it ends up being junk, Dynomax has a $75 rebate going on and if you buy at streetside auto, you can apply a coupon and get free shipping so you could get a decent catback system for about $110 delivered to your door (after rebate)

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
Sounds cool, ok, I have one more, possibly ignorant question, what is the diameter of the stock y-pipe?

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
So, after making an agreement with the guy to buy the exhaust he sold it right under my nose. But I found another deal that is just the exhaust only and comes with the tips for a total of $40. It is a magnaflow exhaust.

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
We're talking a low price item thus why I said to you to just go buy it. The seller knew he was offering a great deal and just wanted the thing gone and to be done with it. People in your face with cash are the only serious buyers.
I placed on craigslist qty 4 "sawblade" style, 17" vette wheels with tires mounted. I wanted $175 and stated that the tires were mounted but you should get new ones (they had maybe 1k or 2k miles left in them)
I got lots of emails within 2 hours saying "I'll take them", "please send more photos" , "how good are the tires" "will you take $150"
I didn't even waste my time with those people.
I listed them on a Friday night and had 4 people all driving toward me on Saturday morning. The first guy to arrive Sat morning didn't even question the price, he knew that qty 4 17 x 9 wheels at $175 was a great deal. I owed nothing to any of the other people because the first person with cash wins.
The seller of that system was in the same situation. He knew it was a very aggressive price. Just like the guy who jumped all over the wheels I sold, you should have jumped all over that system.

that's why when you were growing up your mom/dad/grandparents said things such as "a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"

Just throwing this out there but that guy said that he will sell me an entire third gen setup (minus the headers, ugh, those are hard to find for cheap) but the kicker is he only wants $80 and it is a 3 inch y-pipe that goes into a 3 1/2 muffler. He said he would do $80 just so he wouldnt have to put it on craigslist. He says he thinks that the headers that were on it had a 2 1/4 inch exit on them, where could I get a set of those? He has one of the headers but I think he says he lost the other one but hes not sure.
Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
I KNEW it was a good deal it's just that my dad said that he didnt want me to buy it and instead wanted to buy it himself as a birthday present. I wanted to go the first time he was available but since my dad didnt understand how good of a deal it was (he doesnt know very much about cars) he wanted to put it off until 4 days after that time.

Dear 87Iroc's dad
I too am a father of 3. I gave to my baby a 95 Z28 that I rebuilt and he helped me. He has pampered that car for 2 years now and despite how powerful it is, there have been no issues. Mamma thought I was nuts buying the car and then modifying it but in the 2 years we've seen some of his friends with more traditional vehicles destroy those cars while our son appreciates the effort I made and loves the vehicle, thus he pampers it. I know our son and knew that he would be this way.
I am not in the auto industry but have kept my passion for it all these years. If you want to get your son a birthday present, then may I suggest a complete system from Dynomax. It can be purchased at streetsideauto.com and then Dynomax has a $75 rebate.
Your total out of pocket cost would be around $120 + - and that is with free shipping (also check for coupons at streetside) and you would be buying your son a decent system at an unbelievable price.
Also, get out there with him and make a memory with your boy. Even if you can't physically get under the car you can hand him a wrench and offer him encouragement because teen boys will hide it, but they are nervous about trying new things.
Share and encourage the passion with your boy, he could be doing worse things with his time.
cheers

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
Good news! I got the magnaflow exhaust system with the tips for $40 and it's all chrome! The bad news is that the in pipe is 3" in diameter as apposed to my stock in pipes diameter of 2.5"(I think thats right, correct me if I'm wrong). So now I need to find the adapter for the pipe. Where could I pick one of these up for relatively cheap?

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
So I checked and Autozone has it (special order only) and NAPA might have it (they dont list the sizes on the site). So is removal of the pipe easy? How does the y-pipe disconnect from the muffler? How does the exhaust hang?

Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
So I ordered the new adapter today and will be picking it up from NAPA tomorrow for a grand total of $20. If I can figure out how to drop the old muffler and put this one on then it should be on by Saturday! Any ideas on how to drop the old one?
Re: Will this just "hook right up"?
I get my adapters at adv auto for about $3 or $4 each. I just bought a couple because I made a repair to the RS I'm restoring. maybe you bought stainless steel but I just get the aluminum ones that they stock.
How to connect? Use a hacksaw or sawzall to cut. Be sure to leave a chunk of the old pipe.
