o2 sensor in wrong location?

I just built my exhaust, I have a TPI 305 in my Toyota 4x4. What I did, is I bought a Y pipe, unknown application and modified it to hook up to my block hugger headers.

Anyways, long story short...the o2 sensor on the Y is JUST after they join, close to the passengers side header. See the pics:

Now, is the o2 sensor going to be getting the wrong reading since it's in the path of both streams? I don't exactly understand how these things work, is the ECU going to assume that the mix is doubled or something like that and lean things right out?

Any help will be great, thanx guys!

Jeff

It should work fine. I have seen some guys say it doesnt stay as "hot" there. If thats the case you can instsall a 3 or 4 wire o2 sensor and take care of that. I know I am moving mine to this location very soon.

Re: o2 sensor in wrong location?

you may end up with a better reading in that spot since its reading both banks instead of just one. as mentioned, you may need to go to a heated sensor if the check engine light comes on due to it taking too long to warm up the sensor

As mentioned, I shoehorned this motor into my little Yota...whats a "check engine light"? Haha, JK...yeah I'm thinking it'll be alright since it's only about 8"/9" away from the passengers header (output) and getting the heat from BOTH sides now. Also, if you look at the pics you'll notice the drivers side stream is being projected right at the o2 sensor and has to essentially turn right at it, it's bound to be a hot spot.

We'll see. I'll report back when I find out, for those that may wonder.
