Hooker exhaust?

Yo guys I've got a 92 camaro 305 TBI and I'm going to put typical upgrades on there chip, headers, intake, maybe cam and heads but I need a little advice on this exhaust. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-16823HKR/ there it is, so i am wondering when I change my engine to a 350 will this still be ok because it says it's for 305's but I dont think it will make that much of a difference will it? and also I hate the tips that come with it so can I just not have those tips on there and leave it or will I have to put different tips on? any advice is appreciated!

I didn't like the tips either. Since I like the 'sleeper' look, I chose to swap in the OE pipes. You could, however, select from a variety of tips.

Re: Hooker exhaust?

Next... unless you have a manual trans.
You can avoid a LOT of headache by saving up for the matching header and Y-Pipe
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2055HKR/
they are tuned length headers that fit well and the Y has a 3"exit to match your new cat back system yes they have O2 tubes use them or hack and fill them.
the only other option to get a 3" exit is a is custom made Y
manual trans have a little more room and full length tuned headers can be used
make sure to search before shopping

Re: Hooker exhaust?

i run the same headers, but use a custom y. i dont like the hooker y since it cuts down from a 3" collector to a 2.5 pipe. and the hooker y that is a full 3" is EXPENSIVE.

Johnny's suggestion is the superior choice. The 16767HKR Y-pipe is only 2-1/2".

Re: Hooker exhaust?

Well I would have ordered those but my car is a 1992 and those headers only go up to a 90's model so I'm not positive but I dont think they will fit?

actually, i would doubt there is much difference. they both have a 3" collector and the one johnny posted doesn't specify what the Y outlet is. plus, i believe the 2460 has a thicker gauge primary tube.

Re: Hooker exhaust?

Hey 87zjeff I see you have a modified 700R4 trany can you tell me a little about it? I was planning on swaping my engine within a year and wondered if what you did with your tranny, how worked or how easy was it? I was thinking of just switching to a posi rear but who knows

The outlet is 2-1/2". It's designed to eliminate the cat and hook directly to an L03 cat-back.

Which means the ID is smaller. The tube size is OD, and thicker gauge will reduce the ID.

The only difference is whether it will connect directly to the stock exhaust. Since you're replacing the cat-back, it wouldn't matter that yours is a '92.

You may want to ship the headers and Y-pipe back and get the 2055HKR's.

Re: Hooker exhaust?

Could I just modify the Y-pipe I am getting instead of going through all the hassle of sending it back?

Re: Hooker exhaust?

Now you will need to make a custom Y if you want a 3" exit.
2hours in a shop at 60$+ per hour
only way to get the 3" hooker Y is to buy it with the headers
tuned headers would of made more power but, yours are a bit thicker so heat/sound and header life will be increased get them coated and they will out last the body.
I was just directing you to a well tested/fitted 3" system that U can bolt on 100% in your drive way and it is smog legal (with a CAT)
I Just trashed 450$ worth of 1 year old exhaust crap!!
like others I see the light of the Hooker system

As Johnny is trying to say, modifying the Y-pipe will cost you more than shipping the headers and Y-pipe back. And, most likely you'd have an inferior product when done.
