Headers: Holley paint vs. VHT coating?

I can't find much info about the stock paint that comes on painted Holly Super Comp headers. Im wondering if the VHT flameproof coating is better than the black paint that comes on the Hooker Headers?

I will be getting the Hooker 2055HKR headers from summit sometime very soon, and I'm just wondering if the time that it takes to put on and bake the VHT coating is worth it compared to the off the shelf hooker paint.

Any info is great

I can't find jet-hot in a spray can, and my air compressor can't handle a gun. Is jet-hot available in a spray?

You can send your headers to jet-hot to have them coat them for you. I used the VHT paint on my headers and after curing them, it has held up very well (2 yrs).

I would love to do that, however I don't think that would be cost effective since I'm in Canada. Did you cure them on the car or in an oven?

Any paint that comes on headers, unless otherwise noted, is just shipping paint and not high-temp paint. It'll wipe off with lacquer thinner.

I just stripped the paint off of mine and then cured them in an oven. There are instructions on the back of the can to tell you how to do it.

Re: Headers: Holley paint vs. VHT coating?

Eh I wrote a hole lot about vht header paint somewhere, Followed the instructions to the Tee. Gave the headers several coats, allowed them to bake in different temperatures and cure/cool. I was such a believer, but then my carb went lean as I was adjusting timing and the headers heated the nice coating started to smoke right off.

I assume on a stock vehicle, headers would not see the temps that something with a big cam/head-work would so it might be fine. I don't recommend it for anyone with a built motor, that goes through lots of tuning 90% of the time it will burn right off.

Jet-hot is the way to go, do it right the first time and the only time.
