muffler ideas

Hey guys, I am currently mocking up the turbos and headers a figured its time to plan the rest out. I plan on doing true duals and plan on the running out the way the stock exhaust does and exiting out the side? Anyways I was wondering what muffler if any would you recommend. I we thinking maybe glass packs , a 2 in 2 out super 40(flowmaster). Or possibly straight pipe. Any and all thoughts and comments are welcome.

Re: muffler ideas

Just depends on the setup and what you like. Some people just use turbos and it will muffle the exhaust enough for them. My friend's twin 76mms quiet down the exhaust enough he doesn't even use a muffler just long stainless straight pipes.

Keep in mind if this is a street vehicle even if your state/area doesn't do emission testing you can still be fined(Federal Law) if someone wanted to get picky over the CAT.

Some states require the use of a muffler.

Downside about the stock path is 2.25" or 2.5" pipes are about all you can get to fit easily if you're running both pipes.

You probably want to think of how you want to run the exhaust and start with the headers and work from that for what the engine is built to make.

Your muffler will depend on the quiet it has to be, power it has to support, and pipe size you can get to fit. Your pipe size will depend on ground clearance and how much power you're expecting.

Re: muffler ideas

I run headers and no mufflers with just the cat. But I like my stuff loud. I would just use the turbo and no mufflers. If you are running cats it will quiet it up that much more.

Re: muffler ideas

Since the turbos will quiet things up you could go no cat with a power stick that's supposed to sound good.

Re: muffler ideas

I do not plan on running cats right now. I didn't think id have enough room with my subframe connectors to do anything other than the stock routing. I plan on driving it as much as possible and was built around that factor. It will make power but its not going to be a race car. The guys at summit racing and a few others said it should be around 500 horse but that's neither here or there. What would you suggest for routing ? I. Guess ill try straight pipes bc I don't mind loud and last I checked from where I'm from "turbos are considered a sound deadening device. Tho I may get busted for cats eventually.

Re: muffler ideas

Being a 700-R4 you're routes are a little less open. If you do go around the transmission with a Y pipe be forwarned you'll have a heck of a time getting a Spohn Torque Arm to fit. I did that with mine and I'm still not happy with it.

As for the Cats I hear you. I just had to point it out.

I guess your exhaust just depend on the header setup and your down pipes. Some guys just dump them out after the front tires, others run them back to the pass door, dump them under the car, or over the axle all the way back. Just comes down to what you want to do.

Re: muffler ideas

I think ill stick with the original routing for now see how it goes. As for a muffler I ran into a guy last night, has a built 460 twin turbo'd and running straights and isn't horribly loud either so I guess that'll be the plan for now. Thanks again
