Muffler recommendations for true duals
Hey guys,
Im about to put true duals on my 87 Iroc. The pipes are running side by side like stock, they fit perfectly. There is plenty of space where the cat went for a muffler or I could run them out the back with bullets.
Now All I have to decide is the muffler. I had the magnaflow dual in dual out in mind. And my other choice is dynomax bullets. I want something with a loud roar but not to annoying on the highway.
If you guys have suggestions they will be more the appreciated.

I have never heard of that company and thank you for pointing it out to me.
There is also SLP LoudMouths that I am looking into.
Anyone have any experience with those?

Re: Muffler recommendations for true duals
I have a pair of Thrush glasspacks on my true duals. They are mounted crosswise in the stock muffler location. Idle has a nice rumble and they have a decent roar when you get on it. Not overpowering, but they definitely let you know someone has the pedal down. On the highway with tops on and windows up you can barely hear them. With the tops off and windows down, the wind noise cause more problems with conversation than the glasspacks do.
I have some short video clips on Youtube of the car after I got the exhaust installed. They were taken with my cell phone's camera so they quality isnt top-notch, but it still gives a good idea of how it sounds. Just search 92rs_ttop on there.

Re: Muffler recommendations for true duals
Is your engine stock? If you've got an upgraded camshaft that is audible, you can, IMO, get away with a louder exhaust setup that flows better. If your engine is basically stock then you will sound like a pulpwood truck if you run some of the freer flowing muffler setups.
If it's a healthy sounding engine, I'd run the Summit $40 turbo mufflers, they sound very nice on nasty sounding engines. Or some Moroso spiralflow mufflers, or a Dynatech splitflow/borla XR1 style muffler.
If you've got a stockish sounding engine, I'd stick to a regular chambered muffler. Hooker aero chambers, flowmasters, etc. The GMMG setup would probably sound pretty good too, actually.

My engine unfortunately is stock right now. They recently paved my road and left gravel everywhere, and one lucky rock shot up and knocked a hole in the pipe. So instead of spending this money on something like a camshaft I decided just to redo my entire exhaust since I had my headers already.
But the engine is very very health sounding. Only has 40k miles on it and we recently did all the maintenance work on it.
Im honestly looking at the Classic chambered mufflers mentioned above or the magnaflow di/do I was looking at.

Re: Muffler recommendations for true duals
If you go GMMG buy it from here:
http://madhammer.com/pages/mad_hamme...2-02_cama.html
That guy is the guy who built the systems for GMMG, and now builds them in batches for vengeance racing and a few other places. But that's the source.

Re: Muffler recommendations for true duals
So do you guys agree true duals with either a power stick or GMMG mufflers will give me the best sound?
I plan on an H section as well.

Re: Muffler recommendations for true duals
I think the GMMG uses powerstick mufflers, but the GMMG system is actually a catback for a single exhaust system, so I guess it isnt REALLY relevant to what you're wanting to do. You have your pipes following the stock routing so you could probably modify the GMMG system for your needs but you'd have to run a new over the axle pipe. Probalbly not really worth it. If you just want to run duals, then do the powerstick thing, but it will probably be pretty loud.
Also if you've got two side by side pipes, you'd be better off running an x-pipe. X-pipes are better than H-pipes, and with two pipes next to each other like that it'd be easy to fit one of the more compact styles in there.

Got an x pipe pre made from a friend. So X it is.
