Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Because for $400 you can buy a Magnaflow stainless system that doesn't cackle like a truck, flows better, and is made from better material and lasts longer. Or a hooker system that flows even better and sounds deeper and louder. And that's just to name a couple. Point is, Flowmaster is an over hyped, mediocre exhaust system with mediocre quality and material. There's simply better stuff out there. Not saying they are worthless. Just not the best value or performer.

I hate the aero chamber exhaust tips. If I went that way Id have to replace the tips. the 2.5" tailpipesand double tips look weak. Have to do like a 3.5 slant cut tip.

You rarely if ever hear a Magnaflow at full throttle in the videos because they also Pop. People keep there foot out of it for that very reason.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

I used to have them. They were OK for awhile. But they just sound too generic to me. Everybody has them. I remember counting mufflers at a car show one time. Of all the 3rd gens there, about 80% were Flowmaster, 10% were Hooker, and the other 10% was everything else.

I love my 3in piping no cat and flowmaster 80 series!!!! Its all a matter of opinion i think.Every v8 car i have ever owned has had a flowmaster.I had a Aero Chamber muffler on my DD GMC and it actually flowed too well.It would have to shift into second up certain grades.Since I put a 2 chamber flowmaster on,its never done it since.

Because your leaving power on the table with the horrible flow of flows! I personally love the sound but a magnaflow sounds just a good and flows TONS better.

The double tips actually look REALLY good on the back of a 91-92 bird. They actually look like they were designed to fit the car. I was a little "iffy" about them at first but once installed it looked perfect. Of course, it might have just "flowed" with my car better since I had the 4th gen spoiler and the circle grid tail lights.

Before I had them I had the 3.5 angle cut tips. Every time I pulled in/out of a driveway they would drag the ground and my car wasn't lowered.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

If you like the sound, by all means go for the Blowmaster. It's all a matter of opinion. I wanted a different more subdued sound because the car already gets more than enough wrong attention and I don't like getting pulled over in NYC.

Here's a good clip of a power tour that my car cub did back in 2009. You can here the different exhausts as we all pass by the camera car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYqfa...7&feature=plcp

0:34 - Stock
0:40 - Borla on 305
0:43 - Borla on hot 383
0:46 - SLP catback on my GTA
0:49 - Blowmaster on 305 Formula
0:51 - Spintech on 350 GTA

Just a thought to consider... if it's hard to find positive reviews on something, there's probably a good reason why...

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Sorry, Pop was a poor choice of words. We have a V-8 Camaro locally that has a Magnaflow muffler and I have had the opportunity to run beside it at full throttle .Its a crackle when he come off the throttle and a loud one at that. His car is the only time Ive had a chance to here one in person at full throttle.. Maybe its not typical.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Other than that, Ive considered giving Magnaflow a chance on my car.I just want to be able to hear it in the car while driving and the Flowmaster has given me that. I'm running a three in. cat back with high-flow Magnaflow cat so all I would have to do is replace the muffler . So thats what,$160.00 including having it welded in.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

I love how my car sounds at idle with the flowmaster. I also like it at part throttle. WOT and when you let off I dont like. It has a pop to it. I have been told that a lot of the pop came from the Y pipe. Not sure if that is true or not though. Personally the drone doesnt bother me.

Is there an article anywhere where the different mufflers were independently flow tested or dynoed?

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

i think for a street car i dont think you will feel much if any difference by switching mufflers.... yeah it may show 10 to 15 hp difference but like i said for a street car you wont feel that.... i rather have the sound of flowmasters than the performance of magnaflow.... flowmasters always sounds good. imo magnaflow is quiet and doesnt sound near as muscluar as flowmaster...

I prefer flowmasters, they sound like a real muscle car. But whatever someone prefers they should put on their car, all that matters about their car is if they are happy with it. Not if someone else is happy with it.

If I wasnt worried about performance, I'd run flowmasters.

My dynatech splitflow (similar internally to a Borla XR1) sounds really nice on my car, though.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Heres the thing and I was even part of this. Can anyone bring up solid data or flow charts proving that Flowmaster totally 100% sucks for flow? What about proving the others better? I always hear people say they perform like crap but nothing solid besides words or I heards.

I just plainly dislike them since their inexpensive which means every thirdgen will probably have one due to this. So I don't really hate it in the end but you won't catch me with anything from Flowmaster on any of my rides. I don't like the sound.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

I just found this article and thought it was interesting

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...omparison.html

I am curious as to how legit it really is though. Just like a lot of other things on the net, you never can tell what is truely correct and what is not. It doesnt take much for someone to tweak something on a dyno to make a certain sponsored brand do better.

Also curious as to why they choose to run a 50 series flowmaster over the 40.

EDIT: Here is the original article. http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...t/viewall.html

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

I like my Force II Flowmaster system, I know there are better flowing systems but you wouldn't feel the difference on a street car, I saw that comparison and they were all within 4hp on a 370hp car. The Force II has hardly any drone on the inside and a good tone on the outside. It also makes a huge difference on the engine, when my car had a stock 305 in it I would have never put a Flowmaster on it, just not enough motor. I also don't like the exhaust tips visible, I like the 3inch single that's tucked up under the bumper.

Mark.

Had a Flowmaster on my car for a short time. I hated it. It sounded ok on the outside, but from the inside it sounded like I was driving inside a 55 gallon oil drum. I sold it for half what I paid for it with only a few hundred miles on it. I was glad to get rid of it.

That's the way my Flowmaster has been. It's never popped or cracked or anything the entire I've had it. Granted I've got headers and no cat on it, which I'm sure helps, but I've been satisfied with it, and will probably replace mine with Flowmasters.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

At best a muffler gives what, 20 hp? A crappy flowing muffler may only give 5-10. I dont know about any of you but I would rather have a 255hp car that sounded awesome than a 270hp car that sounded like crap. There are about 100 ways to make more hp, but nothing effects an engines sound like a muffler. So when selecting mufflers I am always 1st focused on making sure I get the sound I like. Then the 2nd thought is to how much power it will add.

Flowmaster flows good enough for any street car and even on most modded cars any loss will be tiny. There are some nice mufflers out there these days, but for an SBC or BBC, with the right setup nothing sounds as good as them IMO. Especially on 60s/70s musclecars with cams and all the fun stuff. I've heard tons of exhausts at car shows and there really is no comparison to me. There's usually a choppy, deep, growling sound to Flowmasters that you don't get with alot of other mufflers which are more high pitched. They're popular for a reason. You just have to find what fits your taste.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

i love the flowmaster sound in true duals on a old 'muscle car' but the crossflow 80 series sounds horrible imo. i like my magnaflow its kinda quiet with stock manifolds and a cat but its enough for me to hear it while cruising thats all that matters. now my yukon xl its an obnoxious beast with its magnaflow it sounds 10x better than both my thirdgens lol but it has longtubes and a off road y pipe.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, love it.

Gets compliments often, much more than my friends L98 equipped Iroc with flowmasters.

Plus, side by side his exhaust creates more of a 'drone'. Idling, my car sounds noticeably deeper.

Take this with a grain of salt though, I'm not sure what Flowmaster he has exactly.

You? I like.

I'm not going to the local strip to run 1/4's, I don't need or want to announce my presence to the neighborhood at 3 AM, nor do I wish to make granny poop her pants in the drivers seat of the CTS next to me when the light goes green. I just want to be able to quote Peter Griffin every time I hear it. "Aw, friggin' sweet!"

Some exhaust notes just sound goooood. Volume isn't really a factor in that for me, just tone. I don't expect anyone to agree with what I like either, it's like music, not everyone likes the same sound. Shoot, I'm sure there are at least a couple people on here that like Justin Bieber, though they probably won't admit it.

I'm with you. So often, I hear people who are pround of the sound of their new exhaust simply because it is ear splitting loud. I'm just not into that. I like a beautiful tone which is music to my ears.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

Everyone has their own preference but I don't like the drone, rusting or the sound. I run 3 inch stainless to an aluminized hooker aerochamber. No cracking, popping and it's quiet until you get on it.

The Flowmaster 80 series sounded great on my otherwise stock LG4. I bought a Hooker Aerochamber cat back for my new 350. I can't wait for spring to hear how it sounds!

With the windows up and cruising it's audible, but you can still carry on a normal conversation in the car. It's not overbearing at all, and no drone.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

i don't like the magnaflow on a sbc...everyone that i've heard sounds like a boat. they're ok on an lsx though. i ran a flowmaster on my l98 for a long time, and it had its place, but was noisy on the inside of the car. now that i'm older, i love the tone/sound/volume of my hooker aerochamber. you can have a conversation while cruising, and when i need people to know i'm in town, all i have to do is stand on it....or open my cutout for max effect.

spintech has a great sound also, but i've heard their crossflow doesn't flow as well as their other mufflers.

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

This whole Flowmaster thing makes me laugh! I think Magnaflows Suck I had them on my 90 and 01 Mustangs and they sounded like crap. Flowmaster is the only way to go in my opnion. I hve them on all my cars with no drone issues. All of my cars get compliments everywher I drive them!!! Here's the list.
70 Chevelle SS Merlin 540 CI 650 HP 650 TQ running Flow 50's
70 Camaro Z-28 converted to a 454 running Flow Super 44's
55 Chevy HDT Belair 327 420 HP running Flow Super 44's
90 IROC-Z 305 TPI Folw cat back
01 MUstang GT 4.6 5spd running Flow 1 chambers no drone sounds flipping awesome!
Magnaflow is a glorified turbo muffler and 50+ year technology. This is just my opnion and to each there own. You know where I stand!

Re: Flowmaster Haters???

the org Flowbasterd mufflers were real good sounding on fox mudstains (not our 3rdgens) and flowed better than the cr*p they have these days. Flowbasterd needs 2 mufflers to sound the best I think..

I like the SLP TOTL for sound with and without cats/longtubes..
I wish they made it in 4" with dual 3" outlets tho.
magnaflow is nice if it has stock tips instead of those nasty farmtruck 3-4" tips that i've seen.
On 3rd gens I'm not a fan of quad tips (even TTA), farm truck bazooka tips or and anything that "busys" up the lines. A 4thgen T/A doesnt look too bad with quad tips because of the ground FX..
