Re: single or true duals?
Most people would say single 3 or 3.5 inch pipe.

Re: single or true duals?
Run duals if you have the time and money to do it. But a single 3 or 3.5 would be fine. I just think duals have a better sound to them, with an X or H of course.

Re: single or true duals?
cost wise with a single 3.5 you will be around where you want to be..roughly $350 IF you buy mandrel bends and buy a nice muffler
now if you run duals you need twice as much material and 2 mufflers. keep that in mind

It's about 5hp difference between the two. Not worth the money and hassle.

how much power are you getting out of the 383? if you are over 400hp i would go with a single 3.5

I have a mildly built 350 and I threw down about $1200(including headers) or so for Stainless mandrel bends and two mufflers (classic chambered powersticks)

when i had stock replacements and the duals on it...it was really quiet really. you could here the cam over everything
next time be sure to tell the cop, if you put your car next to a stock harley, you wouldnt even be able to tell its running

My Hooker Maxiflow Muffler is quieter than Magnaflow.

Here's my car at idle with Hooker Maxiflow Muffler. Remember these cars have dual cats with a single 3in cat-back system.

Re: single or true duals?
I was running a single 3" on my 383 but went with a custom made dual 2.5" with x-pipe. It sounds alot better than the single exhaust. I'm not sure on power increase since the 383 was making over 500ft lbs of torque already at the flywheel so a small increase wouldn't be that noticeable.

Re: single or true duals?
I agree that true duals sound better to me, thats the only reason I did duals and not a catback.

Re: single or true duals?
Where do you get this 560+HP figure from? Have you run the car on a dyno or at a race track? I strongly doubt you make any where near 560HP especially with Hedman shorties.

Re: single or true duals?
Let that car breath true duals with an X pipe and your choice of mufflers
FWIW I had 1-3/4"longtubes and a 3"Y pipe and picked up 1 tenth going to true duals on a bolt on ONLY Lt1 so I am more than certain a larger CID motor w/ cam and heads will benefit

I know I have a 4th gen however it is similar as far as routing
