I am looking into buying a set of Hooker Headers part # 2460-1HKR for my '85 IROC with a TPI 305 in it. I am pretty sure they will not bolt to my factory y-pipe- right? Does anyone know where I can get one that will work cheap (if the factory one won't work)? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

2460's don't' come with a Y-pipe, and nothing is pre-made, you need to have an exhaust shop fabricate a Y-pipe for you.

The 2055's DO come with a Y-pipe but are more expensive (because they are better, and they come with the Y.

 

Well to be completely fair the 2460's are made with heavier gauge steel and are technically slightly superior. But the 2055's have that awesome y-pipe, even though one side necks it down pretty far. 2460's have more potential if you can build yourself a decent y-pipe. I thought Hooker sold a y-pipe for it separately, but it wasnt a very good one. The 2055 y-pipe is much, much better.

 

Smaller inner diameter because of the heavier gauge steel. They flow less than the 2055s do.

I have the 2055's and they fit pretty nice, but I do have to say the passenger side was a royal PITA. I managed to get it in without jacking the motor up. My main reason for choosing the 2055's was that in my state I need to pass emissions and the 2055's retains all of the smog equipment

 

I put a set of 2460s on my 87. I ordered the matching Y pipe. The problem I ran into was the Y pipe hit the subframe connectors. I had to take it to a muffler shop to get it modified. They cut the end off to shorten it and found something interesting. The inside of the Y pipe was about half the diameter it should be. This was caused by the manufacturer not building the collector correctly. If I had used the Y as supplied, I would have had a pretty bad restriction. The muffler shop cut the restricted area off and fixed the problem.
