A.I.R. (smog pump) emissions testing *Pass or Fail*
Has anyone ever tested thier 3rd gens with and without the AIR system? Can our 3rd gens pass emissions without the SMOG Pumps? Im debating on whether I wanna cut off the AIR tubes on my headers.

Depends what state you're in. In CA all the original equipment has to be in place.

Well I live I'm Sur Califas. But when I got my IROC back on the road in 2009 (after not paying non op reg for 7 years), I was never asked for insurance nor a annual smog check. So I guess the little town I live in is exempt.

My main question is, has anyone passed emissions without the air system?

It probably depends on whether they do a simple tail pipe test or a dyno test. Tailpipe tests can be fooled by additives or other cheats and some cars can pass them without having the emissions running perfectly. Many places switched to dyno tests because they are much harder too pass without good emissions equip.
I think I have heard of people on the forum passing basic tailpipe with just a good running engine and a cat, but I highly doubt you could pass a dyno test without AIR.

I passed mine (350 TPI/700R4 with 190k miles), in Texas which is way easier than Nazifornia, with only a Magnaflow cat a few years back. Now I am in a county that has no emissions test, only a visual for Safety (lights/horn/tire tread.etc).

Bypassing the debate about legality and visual inspections and just concentrating solely on emissions numbers.
Here is Stephen's emissions numbers (no AIR tubes)
High Speed-2692rpm
HC 220-standard 4-my reading
CO% 1.20-standard 0-my reading
Idle
HC 220-standard 16-my reading
CO% 1.20-standard 0.01-my reading
Now compare that to my car (with AIR tubes)
High speed - 876 RPM (25 mph, 3rd gear???)
HC 144-standard 71-my reading
CO% 0.92-standard 0.23-my reading
NOx 1017-standard 117-my reading
Low speed - 0 RPM (huh?) 15 mph
HC 148-standard 74-my reading
CO% 0.83-standard 0.31-my reading
NOx 1110-standard 145-my reading
Both cars passed the tests. His car seems to be running much cleaner than my car. He had a Magnaflow cat without the AIR hooked up. I've got a 5 year old Catco on there with the AIR hooked up. My fuel injectors died a few days after I took that test. So I suspect I was running ultra lean. But still, you can't argue that you can pass the emissions numbers without AIR.
