header/spark plug fitment

Guys i've been dreading asking since i'm probably not the first but I did spend hours searching the site for similar threads to no real luck. I'm just trying to find which headers will not hit the spark plugs(especially #3). And whether angled or straight plugs make a difference. My 82 ta has straight plugs, a 305 and no interference with 1 5/8 primaries. The 383 is complete except heads so as I choose heads, i would rather choose the angle and headers that will not be as frustrating as you all have experienced. Even pointing me to the appropriate thread would be a great help. Maybe im searching the wrong terms. New set of 1036 afr 195's with 75 cc chamber on ebay right now about $1150. Thanks for the shortcut!

Re: header/spark plug fitment

I bought a nice set of angle plug headers of of ebay but i have to run the shorty header plugs that accel makes. I like the setup but there are some plugs you have to take out from under the car and it is a MAJOR help if you buy this custom spark plug socket since clearances are so close! If you go with angle plug you might find it better to buy a set off under the headr plug wires from msd> Thats what i did and i really like it! Saves from burnt wires as well!

Unless you have a piston that is more than a flat top i WOULD NOT use a 75cc chamber head! You would have extremely low compression!

Re: header/spark plug fitment

Thanks for the start. I saw how a bunch of you run shorty plugs but i read often that's not enough. I never saw headers designated as for angle heads even on summitt. Maybe i misunderstood your answer. Also generally i thought 65 cc heads would push cr to around 10.5:1, so 75cc would be above 9. Less than ideal but would leave room for a power adder just in case i hit the lottery. Only reason i considered them was because originaly listed for $1000. For that price id drop a point in c.r. what im asking is who has experience with a larger primary (above 1 3/4) , header brand and angle of plug without interference? Appreciate your combos

Nope not tricky! Dyno Don makes his headers to clear straight and angle plug heads. He did it on AFR's and stock heads. His headers are 1 3/4in primaries shortys.
