NC inspection problem

I recently moved to NC from SC. NC has vehicle inspections, a little detail I didn't have to worry about in SC. My 87 IROC is exempt from the emissions test but if I understand the process correctly, they still do a visual inspection of the emissions system. Long story short, I don't have an air injection pump or a catalytic convertor. I can get a cat installed although I'd rather not, but the air pump is long gone. Any of you NC guys have any advice on this one? I live in Wilson county.

Now you see why its best to leave the smog stuff on the car alone. Just work with it.

Re: NC inspection problem

I live in Wayne and its the same however the visual inspection of emissions is easy to get by at any shop. You must have a cat or at least a fakey, the rest they will turn a blind eye to. If you don't wanna install a cat there are a few places that will fab a dummy cat for u but its pricier than just installing one. They are getting stricter this year, before u could easily get a pass with no cat even tho the law has t changed.

Re: NC inspection problem

It all depends on the shop.

I havent found one around me that doesnt look. Atleast for emissions stuff. Ive been to some that dont worry about a ton of other stuff, but emissions they atleast glance at. Good luck and let that be something to think about in the future.

Oh and NC is 35 years old to qualify for an antique tag, so that isnt an option until way on down the road. (In case somebody mentions it)
