Longtubes into duals

Hey does anyone know if I can tell my local exhaust shop to run 3 inch (preferably) or 2.5 inch pipes out of my 1 3/8 long tubes into mufflers and dump it down in the middle of the car instead of going all the way back or will they say they just can't do it? I have seen 3rd gen camaros with true duals. I don't want it going all the way back though.

So would I just say run the pipes out of the headers and bring them together and run them down the middle of the car into an X pipe to mufflers then dump them down before passing the rear tires? What do you think I should tell them?

TIA

Dont do it. Its a waste of time and you will be smelling the exhaust. Beside why do you want to make the car sound like the first and second gen cars? Thirdgens should have their own sound. Also the the way the car was built it is not meant for duals.

Re: Longtubes into duals

Depends on the shop and the laws where you live. I was an inspector when I lived in Oklahoma and the pipes had to come out from the car either right in front of the rear tires or out the back somewhere with no exceptions(well unless you were a friend of mine) but I heard they don't have inspections anymore. I live in Iowa and we don't have them here. I know you didn't ask but I don't think its worth the trouble to run duals not to mention long tubes, They make some pretty good exhaust systems for our cars but the long tube headers are a pain, In my opinion shorties on a car with less then 500hp are just fine but again that's my opinion

Have a look under the car and see how much room there is to do what you're proposing, first.

Naysayers. It can be done but you do scrape on everything. Here are pictures of my old car with Hooker long tubes, 2.5" pipe, H-pipe and flowmasters.

Hey thanks for the reply man and yeah missouri still has inspections but I just pay some guy to pass mine because I'm not running any catalytic convertors. And I agree with what you are saying a hundred percent and I'm in the process of putting hooker super comp shorties and a flow master cat back on right now but I'm also in the process of building a 383 and I am estimating it to have around 500 hp but it won't be done for a year or 2 cause money is tight. But when I am finished with the motor I was going to run long tubes and that's why I made this post. I would just go with 2.5" piping and pray I have some ground clearance..

There are many many members running true dual exhaust, really isn't that difficult. Isn't there a whole sticky dedicated to it? I have mine dump out just before the rear axle, I don't have an exhaust smell.
