IMO, the 60deg 6 doesnt sound good with open exhaust so i would keep it reasonable. when i had the 6 in my 87 i upgraded to the stock type v8 size pipe and muffler. sounded pretty good to me. no vid though it was about 15yrs ago

i have a 92 firebird with the 3.1, i removed my cat. put a 2-1/4 inch pipe in its place, then i have a double piped tip coming out of the middle like corvette, my exhaust is straight 2-1/4 pipe all the way back, gets mistaken for a BBC when warm and idling all the time (it has a slight lope at idle), they all do a double take when i tell them its just a small six shooter- especially when its an old guy who thinks they know everything lol

put in a y pipe, pull the cat and maske a slip fit section so you can still smog it. run 2.25 to the muffler and 2.5 out of the mufler , im using a magnaflow , sounds great. if im on it hard enough at the track once in a great while it will throw fire . but thats only when down shifting into cvorners at high rev
