Cat Delete/Gutting?
Hi, I was wondering what would happen to the car (specifically exhaust noise) if I deleted, or gutted the cat. Thanks for the replys

My 87 camaro idles off since removing the cat and it has a basic flowmaster muffler behind it but nothing to bad.

It'll be a bit louder, more of a gasy smell thats hard to get off your cloths, about 1-4hrs of work, maybe 2hp and if your lucky your GF will still get in the car even tho its now stinky..

Re: Cat Delete/Gutting?
In my experience, not much changes... But I haven't had headers until now. However, the headers haven't been the only change I've made, but I'm also going back to a real cat instead of my gutted one. I've heard that the V6 cars sound like loads of crap with headers and a gutted cat, so I'm trying to avoid that.
Just don't do the same thing the PO of my 87 did... Don't get rid of the cat, cut off the flanges, remove the hangers, and weld a straight piece of pipe in place. That tends to cause a lot of
later. Especially when you add a Flowmaster that's too big for the STOCK pipes and weld the tailpipes on crooked (one side was at least 1.5" lower than the other!) after having broken the engine crossover pipe in half and attempted to half-bake it back together...
