New Exhaust HELP...

I have been looking for a new exhaust system for my 92 Formula.

I have stock manifolds and pretty much stock setup for the most part, the main reason I have to change is the oem pipe has rotted out above the axel and there is a hole in it big enough to put a soda can in now...

So far the Flowmaster 17228 has been discontinued since it had everything I needed Y pipe ect. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Is there anyone that makes a Y pipe similar to that one and what kit would best work with it?

I have been looking at the Magnaflow 16829 cat back with the 10778 Y pipe and make any adjustments as I go but thought I should ask before I begin.

Any help would be great, would love to get this thing goin. The fumes creep in and the stink of it really sucks lol ...

Thanks
Danny

Re: New Exhaust HELP...

I think I found that first Flowmaster exhaust you were looking for on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flowmaster-1989-1992-Camaro-Firebird-3-Dual-Exhaust-Kit-/350184446294?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51889e9956&vxp=mtr
If you decide to go with the magnaflow dual exhaust and that y-pipe, I'm pretty sure you'll have to actually cut the flanged section to attach the y-pipe and connect it to the cats. I remember looking at those magnaflow systems and even called someone from summit (useless) to try and find one that wasn't using a flanged connection from the cats to the cat-back exhaust. I'm not sure how the shops in Las Vegas are, but I would consider just buying the main components like the muffler and exhaust tips and going to a local shop and having them bend and custom fab an exhaust for you. In my experience, the cost is similar and they can weld all the joints for you (if that's what you want).

I sent the seller a msg hopefully it's right. Thank you for the info, I'll take a drive by a local mom and pop shop and see what they say...

Re: New Exhaust HELP...

No luck on the eBay kit no longer available. :'( so back to my previous what is the best way to go? One day once the original motor "goes" I'm going to put something big in with headers ect... If it's best to just come off the stock Y pipe till I take it custom off the heads why not as long as it's 3" or bigger right?

Re: New Exhaust HELP...

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Are you going to upgrade the cat-back and then just wait on the rest of it until you have a motor swap? If so, do yourself a favor and don't weld that y-pipe, as you'll more than likely change it because you probably won't run the same dual cats from that 92. 3" is probably big enough, but that all depends on your build and what you're going for. I don't have specifics, but make sure it's big enough for low back pressure yet small enough for high velocity flow. There are probably some articles on here that cover that sort of thing.

Re: New Exhaust HELP...

Most likely I will be putting in one of my race motors as its a 358 or stroke this one to a 383 when rebuild time comes... Yes I want to do cat back right now as that is what is needed. Headers will most likely be along with the swap. If it's better to come off the stock Y pipe for now till I pull it all off with the swap I'll do that...

That's probably the easiest, and will save you some money now and later when you do that swap.

Re: New Exhaust HELP...

So what kit would you suggest? That is still made that is, lol... I'm not really worried about sound as it will change if I put a 12.5:1 motor in lol that's the issue if I go with one of my motors I have already lolol
