Summit's own 3" cat-back
The $260 kit. Anyone tried it?
I checked the sticky, and searched back several pages.
I've had mixed results with Summit's plain-boxed parts,
some good, some not.

All of Summit's brand are just re-labeled. I bought some summit headers because I knew flowtech headers didn't fit....They were re-branded flowtech headers...

Not sure if it is true 3 inch but I picked up the Dynomax cat back and was very happy with it for my Crossfire. It is more like 2.75 inch at some points but my 5.0 Crossfire seems to like it. It fit nice too.
It is like 230 bucks plus shipping.

Re: Summit's own 3" cat-back
Thanks guys. My buddy's '79 T/A just got some Flowtech headers, no complaints. But the Dynomax cat-back isn't up to another 105 HP and another 1000 RPM more than an '82 Crossfire.

What are you running? The Dynomax and Summit systems are good for stock replacements. You need something like a Magnaflow system if you have something pushing more horsepower.

I'm swapping from a 2.8 to an '01 4.8L version of the LSx. 270 HP stock, and stock is how it's getting installed.
Seems I'll be the guinea pig and then report back on this.

Re: Summit's own 3" cat-back
if i was you, i would find a 3" over axle pipe and run a single muffler of your choice with a hidden tailpipe! that will cover your 4.8l with a cam swap and a better set of heads down the road.

Re: Summit's own 3" cat-back
Would you post a link to the system you are considering ?
How it sounds ?
I looked on Youtube and could not find a video with the Summit brand CAT back or just a muffler on a Camaro so you can hear what it sounds like.
I can imagine your car with that engine may sound a little different than some others but it will still carry the same tone that muffler provides. Just possibly a little deeper and more aggressive sounding.
That goes for basically any brand muffler/cat back.
Example = If that muffler is a Flowmaster clone as it surely could be it will have something close to the Flowmaster sound no matter what you put in front of it.
If you pick a name brand you should be able to listen to it on Youtube. It will give you some idea as to what it will sound like on your car.

Re: Summit's own 3" cat-back
I have the summit cat back on my 85 and I really like it. I would post a clip of it, but I can't figure out how. Mine is the 3" intermediate 2.5" outlet pipes without a cat.

Dyno Don - that link you gave for LS1 pipes, those are the same shape as third gen pipes, just different hangars?
