Exhaust System Suggestions?

Alright so I'm not super car savy never was around anyone who was, anywho I need some help.

So I need a whole new exhaust system, the one currently on the car goes to the cat then has around 2 feet or so of piping then its hanging there and then theres part of another pipe tied with rope connected to nothing then the end of that is gone and the cats housing is like in half. (Sorry don't know the specific names.)

I've checked around on the site and read up on things but still confused.

So my question is can someone help me figure out what I need? I'd perfer to be as cheap as I canb but still have something at least as good at what used to be there.

Also is this something that can be put on yourself without to much hassle? is there anything special required, it seems they'd bolt to certain areas? Welding wouldn't be a problem.

I have bone stock 1991 RS TBI V8.

I really appreciate the help, wish I could contribute something here but I'm a art guy and don't have a ton knowledge in this field. Thanks again guys.

Just get a cat back that you can afford, there are certainly some cheaper systems made out of aluminized steel. I run the Magnaflow system and I love the way it sounds. Got it on the cheap after scouring the net for one. I cant remember exactly but I think I paid somewhere about $450 new for it.

Hmm I'll look around. You don't need any special tools right? If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd really love the input. I'm also curious what effects my jacked up exhaust currently has? Its it possible for it to cause me problems?

Problems, depends on state inspection laws. I hate the sound of exhaust leaks. Cat back systems are pretty easy to install with basic hand tools. Some fit better than others, I had to do a lot of adjusting on my system to get it to clear everything and make a custom mount for the rear.

We don't have any of that stuff here. The last people who owned this car were some of the.... not that into taking care of stuff type people and destroyed most of it. But gives me something to do after work and I'm learning. Anywho so I'd not prefer to drive around with it like that.

So a system like one of these?

Re: Exhaust System Suggestions?

Yes, a system like that should hook in just fine, looks like they require some welding though so you may have to buy the kit and then take it to an exhaust shop and have them install it (most shops do that for cheap if you supply all the parts).

Re: Exhaust System Suggestions?

Most of the packaged cat-back systems require no welding.

They are mostly REALLY easy to put in. That's the way to go.

I'd suggest the Hooker one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ho...w/make/pontiac

Re: Exhaust System Suggestions?

Sick. Will prolly get that one. Any tips or anything I should know about? I wonder if all the areas it bolt to are OK. Anyone have a picture of the areas it hooks to?
