Short Tube Header Install Question
Wondering if it's necessary to jack the engine (5.7) up to remove stock iron manifold and install Edlebrock Short Tube headers.
If someone can post (or has posted) step-by-step instructions, please point me in that direction!
(Forgive me if this has been asked - I searched and kept coming up with things like "which is better" posts)

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
From what I remember correctly you have to jack the engine slightly for any header install on these cars. Driver side is a breeze and passenger side is header HELL. For passenger side you need to jack engine up slightly 1-3"

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
If your a smart person and your car dosent suck...you woun't have to jack the motor.
I didnt touch any mounts on both my shorty and LT header installs.
It would be best to get LTs if you dont already have headers...

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
My experience with Dyno Don shorties: "throw the driver's side header at the car, at it fell into place". I had previously replaced the steering shaft with one from an Astro, and bent the brake lines under the shaft instead of over.
Passenger side did require removing diverter valve, jack the engine 1/2" to pull the motor mount bolt, then up another 1-2". THEN the passenger header fell into place.

The passenger side isn't hard. Just time consuming. Just remove all the junk that's in your way. Jack the passenger side of the engine up a few inches, and it should drop right in. When jacking the engine up, make sure you remove the motor mount bolt and watch your distributor doesn't hit anything.

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
I just installed Don's headers last weekend. All I had to do was:
Driver's side - remove oil pressure sender and valve cover
Passenger side - drop starter and remove valve cover (I don't have the smog equipment installed)
It did take some massaging of the header to get it to drop in, but it is possible.

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
Thanks for all the replies. I do already have short tubes (got them dirt cheap) and they've already had the smog tubes welded up, so that works, since I don't have smog cr@p on mine either. I've done most of the AC delete, so that's a little more that I shouldn't have to fight with.
If I get everything else done and have the time, I'll attempt this before the MiFbody meet & greet, otherwise, it may be later in the year.

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
I've done three different shorty headers on two different cars. I can't remember which one of the brands, but I had to go in from the bottom on the passenger side. Removed the starter, and the header pretty much fell into place. Drivers side is cake.

Re: Short Tube Header Install Question
I should have posted this earlier, but better late than never!
Got the short tubes in WITHOUT jacking the motor up. We did remove the valve covers to gain a little room, and we also removed the steering shaft and re-routed the brake lines under it (taking time to clean and re-lube the shaft before reinstalling). The worst part was getting the plug wires back in. Since the short tubes are meant for tighter spaces, they hug the head & block closely and make a couple of the plugs hard to get to. I will probably need to drop the headers off the head to replace the plugs someday!
