Edelbrock Header Tpi/Tbi
I just bought these headers from a guy in my area. I didn't notice until I got home, the informative brochure says it's for a 5.0 Tbi, on the outside of the box it says 5.0/5.7 TBI. Can anyone tell me the difference? Do they not fit a Tpi?

Re: Edelbrock Header Tpi/Tbi
I found some information on the website, I didn't know there would be a difference in single or dual cats but it makes sense. The car is a 1991 Z28 with a 5.7 auto.
Can I make these work with a different y pipe? Or better to get ones that come with y pipe? Are there any headers that fit the stock y pipe or does it defeat the purpose because the original y pipe is too small?

I tried installing the headers today, pain in the rear. On the passenger side, where do I route the oil dipstick too?

I had to bend my dipstick totally out of the way(outside of the header), but mine have the smog stuff on top. I don't think the dipstick will fit between the header and the block, too stiff.
I've since bought a nice braided Lokar dipstick that's a bit more flexible, but haven't got around to pulling my engine to install a dipstick.

I might do the same, if I can't figure this out. What is your part number on that lokar dipstick, if u don't mind sharing? I also put a hole in the oil pan and have that problem to deal with that now also. A little frustrating.

Re: Edelbrock Header Tpi/Tbi
I don't remember the part number, it's been a while. I know I had a difficult time finding one, the mid 80's years seemed to be a fluke as far as dipsticks go.
I wondered at the time if a big block dipstick would've worked, but never got around to checking. I've got to either pull my motor or header out someday to install, I had a bad oil leak at the dipstick where the previous owner did not seat the dipstick tube far enough into the block.....impossible to get to. I finally gooped enough orange permatex around it to stop it leaking. Temp fix until I can re-route my new Lokar stick.
Yes, a PITA.
Also, it looks to me like you have the TBI set not the TPI set, the only difference being the y pipe, the exit is 2.5 for the TbI version but 3" for the TPI set. If I were having fit it issues, and needed custom work to attach, I would cut off the Y section that "crimps" and install a Flowmaster Y with a 3" exit....that "crimp" in the y pipe isn't a very efficient design.
But if you can it to work, it's better than the stock Y. Just not as efficient as it "can" be.
Good Luck.

Re: Edelbrock Header Tpi/Tbi
Ok, I talked to a guy at a muffler shop and he is going to make the y pipe, as this system is for one catalytic converter, this car has two. He'll put the magnaflow cats ( I don't know if it makes a difference) then put a flowmaster muffler.
I'm going to send the headers to get ceramic coating tomorrow to get more life out of them.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Edelbrock Header Tpi/Tbi
So now I've installed the headers but now I'm having trouble routing two of the passenger side spark plug wires. They are hitting on the air tube and put some sleeves over it but I don't think this will work. Won't these sleeves melt? Don't know much about these sleeves or what abuse they can take. I have searched for info and pictures for this and all of the headers that I've come across do not have the air tubes. Any suggestions?

The sleeves won't melt. They are some tough stuff. Mine were routed the same way, albeit not pulled quite as tight.
The last tune up I bought some nice MSD custom wires and an Accel left/right side distributer cap ( like the 96-up vortec truck engine cap, re routes dizzy connections to a neat drivers side plug wires, drivers side dizzy connections- no wires crossing over each other @dizzy).
I made the wires sweep longer from the back around the side and just use some 4/3/2 wire loom clips. Did away with the valve cover clip. It's still a tight fit between the smog tubes, but it's fine. I'll try to post some pictures up in a bit. That dizzy cap makes the plug wire routing a neat and orderly affair. Old school GM folks look at my dizzy and question the firing order all the time....
