Don't know where this came from

Hey everyone, I pulled my engine in my 88 Firebird and took off the exhaust, went out to garage the next day and this was lying under my car on the passenger side next to the y pipe I had removed. I have no idea where it came from or what it is. 5.0 TBI with stock exhaust.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Don't know where this came from

From between the right exhaust manifold, and the head pipe.

Should also have been a flat gasket.

Nope, no gasket required, metal to metal fit.

Re: Don't know where this came from

In the early thirdgens there was a vacuum operated valve. Its called an Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) Valve.

Later models didn't need it, so they put that spacer in instead of extending the manifold. The more you know.
