Dual exhaust question
I have a 1989 Iroc and was wondering if it's possible to run true duals off of hooker long tubes. I have a bunch of 3in piping laying around just looking at a huge clearance issue and possibly not working at all. Any thoughts?
Just fyi I have the hooker long tubes already on the engine and this is why im starting to see some clearance and mounting issues.

Re: Dual exhaust question
Yes you can. Many have done it including me. There is a sticky on this page with plenty of pics. Your ground clearance will go down. You have 2 options, either run the pipes along the stock routing or down the middle by the drive shaft tunnel.

Re: Dual exhaust question
I'm definitely looking at running it down along the drive shaft tunnel, however right next to the transmission how did you run the pipes off the headers?

Re: Dual exhaust question
i have hedman headers but hookers should be similar. i used these s-extensions to get it under the cross member...http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-18804/overview/
they are universal so they should still work just get the size you need. let me get some pics loaded up and i will show you how mine looks.

Re: Dual exhaust question
If you are going to run 3" duals I would suggest the founder panhard relocation kit. It will make your life much easier.

Re: Dual exhaust question
Would a flexible 3 inch pipe that I am looking at be a possibility? I don't know if anyone knows the integrity of the piping or had a run in with it before.

Re: Dual exhaust question
Nice exhaust set-up. was always intrigued about putting headers on my 1986. The only question I would have is the o2 , cat...since I am slaved to emissions and safety. does look like it runs a bit low...in Utah we have these humongus dips off the street into parking lots and such...whats the hang distance related to stock?

Re: Dual exhaust question
i would say i lost 2.5-3 inches of ground clearance. you need to be careful where you drive lol.

Re: Dual exhaust question
I have to get some better shots of my exhaust system, but still am a bit bewildered on how I am going to retrofit the emissions stuff. doesn't look promising.

Re: Dual exhaust question
It is also possible to run dual 2.5" or 3" over the axle, following close to the stock routing. Midias has linked to a panhard bar relocation kit in post #5. Something like that kit is necessary for dual 3". Not needed for dual 2.5". The pipe routing has to be pretty exact to clear dual 3s this way, but I have seen it done. I am going to be doing my own dual 3" over the axle this winter.
There is a sticky on this forum showing pics of a dual 2.5" system. The car owner is Willie.
