Catalytic Converter

What kind of gasket/spacer goes between converter flange and the exhaust pipe flange. If there is none, wouldn't it leak exhaust.

I'm sorry man I really don't know hopefully someone will chime in.

I'm thinking the same as you...no gasket=exhaust leak

Re: Catalytic Converter

im no expert. however when I took my old cat off there was nothing there. when I put my new one on I didn't use anything. just tightened everything down real well and there is no leak. turned the car on and ran my hand over both ends while a buddy reved the engine.
maybe some one more knowledgeable can chime in.

Re: Catalytic Converter

They didn't get any gaskets from the factory.
Sounds dumb, but that's the way it is.
As the headers and heads were new, there wasn't any deformation to produce a leak and I'm surprised that my two Birds have never had an issue with leaks at the headers in all those years.

Re: Catalytic Converter

IIRC...If the ends are flat/flush the it needs a gasket. If the mounting plate is offset with alittle pipe nub sticking out past the flange, then it's a ball and socket design and no gasket is needed

Gasket needed on this one http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/83...ainless-steel/

No gasket needed on this one http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/82...ainless-steel/
