Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

Has anyone out there used the Headman 68470 shorty headers and the 17470 Y pipe? How did they this combination work and any photo`s?

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

Some years ago I installed a set of SLP 1 3/4 shorty's, I know you are asking about the Hedmans, shorty's are OK better than the stock manifolds but are still HP limited. Since I am in the middle of an LSx conversion the SLP's are going away.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

I'm actually interested in this as well. That header Y-pipe combination is the one I am thinking about putting in my 85 Camaro. I'm curious how easy it will be to install.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

Honestly, those are a waste of your hard earned money.
The Y-pipe is 2 1/2" outlet.
Read the description of what you get.

Doesn't matter if you chose mine or not but you should know about them.

Now we have a header that fits almost
all applications with 3/8th flanges 1 3/4" tubes and doesn't burn spark plug wires.

I also make a y-pipe that is 2 1/2" into a 3" collector (not 2 1/4" or 2 1/2")
and dual 2 1/2" pipes for dual cats.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

If you want headers and don't want to deal with LTs and fitment issues shorty's are the ticket. As I said they are still HP limited including the Hedmans. Not looking to get into a flame war here but waste of money HMMM it depends on how you look at it. Yes the SLPs were pricey but not too many out there but SLP were stainless steel (a requirement for me) pretty sure Hedmans are mild steel. I had mine Jet Hot coated and they looked nice they need to be polished now but that's no big deal. I installed them on a dual cat car with a 2 1/2 to a 4 "Y" to a 4" Spintech cat back. The system flowed well and sounded good especially without the cats. Ran them for ten years without issues except the typical header re-torque routine. They are off the car now due to an LSx transplant. I am going to put these up in the used part sales forum, someone could get them pretty cheap if they wanted them.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

This project is a low dollar road race deal so cost is a big factor BUT I don`t want to have to remanufacture everything. Thanks for the reply`s.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

No remanufacturing anything unless your ride is a single cat car. There is an extra O2 sensor bung I had installed for a wideband O2 sensor and one installed for an EGT probe in the left bank cross tube but they will accept screw in plugs. no other issues. Headers are perfect except as I said they need polishing with a scotchbrite pad. It's up to you PM me if your interested. Oh and I'll probably beat any ones new header price and stainless to boot.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

As I said they need a good clean up (just removed from the car). I plan to clean them up this weekend. Will post pics after cleaning.

Re: Shorty headers and a Y pipe?

Got my new Headman headers and Y-pipe yesterday and they went on very easy and fit great. Directions said to pick the motor up to install the left side but I didn`t and both sides went in from the top. I realize they probably aren`t the ultimate but for my deal the Headman`s are good. Understand also, that this isn`t the first set of headers I have installed by any means.

I bought your shorties and Y. Fit nice but your ceramic coat sucks. Sorry to say. Wasn't cheap either.

Yup, properly built and sized shorties will be a good match for longtubes anyday of the week.
