How to Install 4th gen Cat Back

I bought the SLP Loud Mouth 1 part# (SLE-31042AL) for 98-02 Camaro's. It was much easier than what I expected and from everything I searched. It only took about 45 minutes to cut out old and have the new one roughed into place. Kit had everything I needed and the clamps were great compared to other I had seen.

I am glad I got the LM1 and not the milder LM2. It has a great tone but is not as loud as what all the reviews had me thinking. Deep rumble at idle but can be Loud at higher rpm's. I love that it can be loud but at 70 on the highway it has little to no drone that can't be fixed by the radio Overall really a great system easy to install with great sound.

Hopefully this will help the next person searching 4th gen cat backs. Minus the cost of the system I only spent roughly $12 on the hangers.

Sorry for the small crap pictures taken from my phone.

Only parts I needed were two hangers from AutoZone I couldn't find the link for what I used but this would work just a good.

First remove the old exhaust but leave extra pipe for the new system to connect

After the old muffler was out, insert the Y that goes over the axle and lightly clamp everything together. I then wire tied the tail pipes up until everything was were I wanted it.

Once the new muffler was roughed into place I marked the excess factory pipe and cut to length.

Here its all assembled, and I did not need to adapt for the size difference in the original to new exhaust. The kit had some great clamps that sealed everything great no welding needed.

I reused the factory bolt holes and bolts from the old hangers to hang the new ones. I also didn't use the only exhaust hanger that came welded and spent the next hour making it level and look straight.

Some pics of it welded in place

What do ya'll think?

How much room do you have between the axle and the pipe going above it? I read somewhere that some people had to trim that pipe.

Nice!

So the tail pipe hangers are the only thing "different" between 3rd and 4th gen?

When I get a chance I will get some pictures of the over the axle section. I'm also working on a video maybe some time this week. Yes on the hangers. I thought that I would have to weld on or modify the connection after the cat to the new system but it all slipped together and clamped together very tight. Only the two hangers were needed everything else came in the kit.
