open electric cut out or whole system?
open electric cut out or whole system?
hey guys, i have an electric cut out right after my y-pipe (in place of the cat) and was wondering if it would make more power with it open or closed and running the whole system. i almost feel like having it closed and having more back pressure seems to feel like it pulls me into the seat more. however i thought that with having the valve open, the engine would be able to get rid of the exhaust gasses quicker, getting the air in quicker and making a more effective air pump therefore making more power. when i punch it with the valve open, i kinda dont feel like it throws me back as much (i guess the torquiness) but i can still smoke the tires alright. any thoughts or knowledge would be great. thanks guys

You'll make more hp with the cutout open, at the same time you'll make less torque (not a whole lot less, but still less).

Re: open electric cut out or whole system?
There is a lot more science to exhaust than just back pressure. Things like scavenging, velocity, primary pipe length, collector size and length, pressure waves, etc etc.
In short... By installing a cut out and opening it... You just killed alot of the things needed to make power... Sounds cool but that is it.
A well designed full exhaust system will make more power, faster ETs than an open exhaust system.
When you open the system like that, yes you get rid of the back pressure, but you also get rid of the scavenging effect where pressure waves "pulls" exhaust out of the other cylinders, and you increase flow but that decreases exhaust gas velocity
