Good header/exhaust install tutorial?

Does anybody already have a site up with a good tutorial for installing headers etc. in a thirdgen? I did my exhaust a few weeks ago in my '91 Formula and took pictures and stuff and thought maybe I'd put something up to give tips to people who want to do this, in case they don't want to search around here for the advice or they want pictures to see things better.

However, I don't want to mess with it and be redundant if someone has already done this. Has anyone?

I was thinking the same thing, I think it is a good idea. I just installed a hooker cat-back on Sat and took a few picks that I need to scan in. My install was so easy, and the fit was perfect. Some of the posts I've read regarding the hooker had me a little concerned when I ordered it but I think those folks must have not turned wrenches before.

I think there are so many different brands of headers that it would be impossible to write a universal tech article for installing them. Some require you to lift the engine, whereas others (like mine) do not. I can honestly say, though, that my headers weren't the easiest to install, and a tech article for them would've been nice at the time. There are none that I know of. Go ahead and write one; it'll help some people out .

BTW, how did you attach that damn dipstick tube?

I installed SLP Headers and a borla cat back exahust. One important thing to note is if you install SLP headers on a third gen you will need to install new motor mounts! The headers sit on the frame if the mounts are old. As for the entierty of the project, it became to dificult to do at home so I went to my local muffler shop and they did the install for $150.00. Much less headach having someone else do the job!

Why don't you e-mail your idea to Dirk, the administrator of this site. Maybe he can put it into the technical articles section of the site. I think you'd find theres a pretty good base of interest for something like this, as its one of the most common mods.

Jagone.... Which sounds better flowmaster or hooker cat back... did you have to weld your hooker cat-back ? Which one would you recommend?

thanks...

RS91, on my 90 I only have the flowmaster muffler, the rest of the exhaust is stock. As far as the sound goes, I love the rumble of the flows, always have, but the hooker sounds awesome also, plus the tips are pointing straight out so I think it is quite a bit louder than the flows. Inside the car both are suprisingly quiet. I will probably go with the hooker syatem on my 90 when I get headers and a new cat, hopefully soon. I was really skeptical about the hooker syatem before I bought it, now I hate that it took me so long to decide to buy it, should have done a long time ago. I didn't have to weld anything but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt once you get it installed.

I am planning on installing the Edelbrock TES and Catback. I would be very interested in a tech article w/photos on the installation of these. Plus I cannot make any sense of their catalog. Which part# headers do I need? "'82 Z28 w/406 '87 IROC cat"

Thanx,ANDYZ28
