flowtech 16102flt headers and y pipe wont fit my 82?

I'm curious how come these headers and y pipe will not fit my 82? There are a few other headers that say the same thing, then some fit all 3rd gens. Summit says they only fit 86-92 f body's. Has anyone used this setup on a 85 or older?

Re: flowtech 16102flt headers and y pipe wont fit my 82?

Main difference year-to-year will be the outlet to the cat. There are different flanges, sizes, etc.

And of course, V8 vs 6-cyl; but I assume you're past that.

Other than that, they'll fit.

Flowtech tends to be the absolute cheeeeeeeeeeeepest thing that nobody will actually go to jail (for commercial fraud) for printing the word "headers" on the box. Don't expect to be overjoyed by their fit, finish, longevity, freedom from leaks, or much else.

Re: flowtech 16102flt headers and y pipe wont fit my 82?

Thanks for the heads up sofaking! I'm just having a helluva time finding a y pipe that bolts rite up to any other set of headers. I was just looking at how flowtech has the whole kit so I can drink beer and not put to much thought into buying it. But in the long run after I've beat my firewall with a mallet, pulled the steering box, flung tools across the garage, droped the upper and lower control arms etc etc etc lol (just kidding) I can just spend another 50 bucks on something that fits rite and wont make me lose my mind in front of my kids and neighbors.

Oftentimes it's eeeeeezier to modify the exhaust you have; for instance, since those Flowtech POSs probably come with that crappy 3-bolt flange, you could adapt it with some one of these http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...rder=Ascending as appropriate to your exact situation, and de-Flowtech the whole system a little bit. Prevent leaks specifically.

Dyno Don makes a set that comes with a y-pipe. Also, Hooker 2055's are one of the better sets and also comes with a Y-pipe.

The hooker's run $500 or so un-coated with Y-pipe. $700 or so with Y-pipe with ceramic coating.

Dyno Don's are $700 or so, ceramic coated with Y-pipe (I've never seen his for sale without the Ceramic Coating).

Re: flowtech 16102flt headers and y pipe wont fit my 82?

Say no to flotek and their **** Y pipe.

Hooker 2055
Hooker 2460 with 16767HKR Y pipe or use Doug's Headers #D901
Dyno Don Makes a Kit
Hedman Hedders 68481 is an entire kit
Headman headers 68478 with 17478 Y-Pipe

All Depends on what you need and if your keeping air tubes. I would go dyno don if I had the cash. It is the only one I would not modify before installing it.

For 700, is that headers and y pipe? I don't mind spending the money since it will stay in the car throughout engine swaps. And how do I get ahold of dyno don?

Dyno Don is a member here and a sponsor I think.

Yes it's both headers and 3" collector on the Y-Pipe. They also come ceramic coated which is why they're such a steep price.
