Results from header swap...

Ran a best of 12.47 @ 111mph on a 1.80 60' with SLP 1-5/8" Tri-Y shorty headers and 3" catback. Swapped over to Hooker 1-3/4" long tube headers and Mufflex 3.5" catback along with a 3" custom built y-pipe using the flowmaster collector. This past Sat we headed out to the track and she ran a best of 12.07 @ 113 on a 1.78 60'w/ best mph of 114.3. Holy Cow!! She still has more in her too!! I was so happy as the install was such a pain but those memories were all gone after I dropped 4 tenths in the 1/4. It feels sooooooo much stronger through out the whole powerband. Anybody with a healthy motor considering long tubes.....BUY THEM! The sound is incredible as well! I have video of my run and hope to get it on my website real soon so everyone can hear and see.

Do you have times from stock manifolds to the SLP headers? I recently went to SLP 1 3/4s and Im wondering what I can expect roughly over my best pass of 13.52 with the manifolds. I know I wont get 4 tenths but even half of that would make me feel like I spent my $ wisely....

Cool Deal I guess there's hope for me. I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now ... 1-5/8 SLPs to Hooker long tubes and 4" Mufflex with Spintech. Sweet.

Trax....you'll should definitely get a nice gain as well. Wait until you hear it.....the sound is killer. I've got to change out these springs that come on my AFR heads as I get valve float at 5800. I have my rev limiter set at 5750 and combined with the 3.73 gears, I run out of rpms before the traps. If I could have made it all the way through, I think I would have made an 11 sec pass easily with another 1mph or so. New springs and Ti retainers are on the way. I can't wait to get back out there!

I'm so glad you posted that! I was leaning towards the SLP's until about a few weeks ago. I ran across someone who has the Hooker Super Comp. long tubes on a street driven 3rd gen.

Knowing they would be streetable changed my mind. I figured they'd be a big improvement, but your improvements are truly impressive!

Right now I still have my stock exhaust (yuck) so I should have an even great improvement.

Get that video up!

I too am very happy you posted this.
I was about to go with SLP 1 3/4 shorties over a long tube setup, but now I am going to limp on the TES's a little while longer.
It would be soooooo great to see pics of the whole exhaust setup and maybe some clearance pics. hint. hint.
What was the entire cost for it all?
I've been following your car ever since i saw it in GMHTP! It keeps getting better, and better..........thanx
Paul

David....What about the O2 sensor? Do the LTs come with a bung for it or did you have to weld your own? IM looking for something to replace the tes system I have now Its killing my topend. I have the flowmaster dual 2.5 to 3" ypipe, I would like to install it along with some higher flowing headers at the same time.

The O2 bung does not come welded on. I installed mine at about the 3 o'clock position of the collector if your looking at the collector flange. To use that flowmaster collector you have, you'll probably have to purchase some header collector reducers(3" to 2.5") and build a 2.5" y-pipe. That should work pretty well, but a 3" y-pipe would be better. Anything over those TES will be a wakeup call especially on a 406!
