3 inch exhaust
ok so i have an 84 camaro with the 305 and i was looking putting straight exhaust 3 inch pipes and i was wondering if thats to big cause i noticed on it is 2 inch thanks in advanced

For starters, I don't know the definitive answer. But I do know there are considerations you want to research. You also need to clarify where you are starting the 3" pipe and what you have before it. Motor setup and future plans would also be helpful for the experts to answer your question. With all that said, low end torque on these motors can be effected by pipe sizes and lengths, I believe those pipe sizes are critical from heads to catalytic converter. On TPI setups, even the runner lengths come into play. From cats on back, I don't think it is critical, in fact, bigger is better, (I'm sure there are laws of diminishing returns). The cat back (as it is affectionately referred to) pipe size will effect sound quality. (You don't want it sounding like a Mustang do you?) Hopefully this gives you a few places to start researching where you should look to get your final design. You need to define what part of the rpm curve you want power on this motor, how you want to use the motor, that will help you with your exhaust design, there are always trade-offs. thanks thats some good info, yea i will have to look more into what i want. oh and i want more of a corvette sound lol
