Having Exhaust Done Today

Nothing special-just having a shop make a y-pipe to connect to my factory exhaust and swap the muffler out. Does anyone else get nervous about taking their cars to a shop? I work during the week so I had to drop the car off and I always worry about people revving my engine or not taking care of the car. Maybe Im just paranoid I hope?

Re: Having Exhaust Done Today

Depending on the work I still get nervous leaving my car in someone else's hands. A little paranoia can be a good thing! I've generally had good experiences with shops. I had one shop that really went above and beyond diagnosing my emissions issues (even after they put in an extra 8 hours of labor they stood by their original estimate and didn't charge me for it). But I have seen some real bonehead stuff too. Like the shop that forced the wrong model oil filter onto my friend's '95 Explorer and ruined the threads. Or the shop that did the intake on my Camaro (before I owned it) which didn't bother with intake gaskets and used RTV for the entire intake.

If I do have to take it to a shop I always do as much research as possible first. Just remember people are a lot more likely to leave bad feedback than good feedback. Also, the date of the review is important; a bad review from 2002 has a lot less weight than a bad review from 2012.

Best of luck with the exhaust!

I always know the folks I take mine to for anything. Ive always probably been over-**** about such after some of the things ive seen a few worms do. My wife almost lost an engine after someone stripped the oil plug out from crossthreading it on a new Grand Prix GT back years ago. There are some great mechanics and such out there you just have to ask around usually.
