Summit Racing shorty headers?

Hey all

I was looking around on Summit's site last night and came across a set of shorty headers for our application made by Summit.

120 per pair uncoated
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g9005

350 per pair coated
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g9105

I'm not looking to make huge gains with installing headers on my car, which is a daily driver - I basically just want to nix all my emissions equipment to make for a cleaner engine compartment and give my car a little more growl.

Does anyone here have these headers on their car? Likes / dislikes / fitment issues?

Re: Summit Racing shorty headers?

I had them, they worked well enough, fit decent and worked but the flowteck Y pipe they recommend you use is beyond **** and you should go custom or at minimum fix the merger. Where they merge is really bad and the opening in mine was about 1.5" even with a 2.5" pipe welded to it.

Used them on a few third gens over the years and liked them. Put them in from underneath the car and didn't have to take motor mounts loose and no fitment issues as far as I remember I had stock starter on atleast one of those cars. Both times I had my exhaust man build me a custom y-pipe for them though.

Honestly, you would be better off throwing your money in the trash.

At least you wouldn't have sore knuckles.

Those things are 1 1/2" primary tubes which are smaller inside than the ports in your heads.

Re: Summit Racing shorty headers?

They look basically like the flowtech shorties... I wouldn't be surprised if flowtech makes them for Summit.

Re: Summit Racing shorty headers?

It would be interesting to see a dyno test between 1-1/2" primary headers and stock high-performance manifolds (the ones with the 2-1/4" outlets). I would be surprised if the headers didn't still win out.

The ports in those manifolds are bigger than the ports in those so called "headers".
Talk about choking your motor.

Re: Summit Racing shorty headers?

Put a set on my '87 and didn't have any fitment issues, but just like Midias said the flowtech y-pipe is a pain. I purchased a flowtech Y and it was an "interesting" project to say the least. It will fit, but needs to be cut and either clamped or welded to get it to work properly.

Here is the thread from my build: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ml#post6024083

My car is a vortec 350 mated to a WC T5 running the factory starter, so if you want pics to see fitment areas just let me know.
