My 406 with Ebay long tubes and ground clearance.

I have a 406 with ported vortec heads and a XR270 full roller cam. We felt we needed more than shorties with 1 5/8 primarys for this engine. So after talking with a Dutch guy on here I ordered a set of these stainless OBX Chinese headers off Ebay with 1 3/4 primarys. They go by a bunch of different names like OBX these were "DNA"s for $267. With a little bit of notching on the K member and new stock motor mounts they give great ground clearance

Re: My 406 with long tubes and ground clearance.

I run a WC T5 for now. For collector clearance my guy cut off the ear on the bell housing and installed this Howe hyd throw out bearing

He cut the 2.5" collectors off. Those are dual 3" Magnaflow cats and the start of the 3" Y pipe.

Re: My 406 with long tubes and ground clearance.

There is the rest of the system. The 3" Y with dual 3" Magnaflow cats then 3.5" all the way to the muffler which is a Spintech 3.5" in with dual 3" out and 4" tips. Yes I know you can make more power with a straight through muffler but I wanted dual tips

Re: My 406 with long tubes and ground clearance.

This is the lowest part of the system, back by the rearend. That cup is 4.5" high. The car has original (somewhat sacked?) stock springs.

Re: My 406 with long tubes and ground clearance.

Here's a Youtube vid. Many thanks to Vic at Schmitt tuning north of Toronto for his hard work and vision. The Fitech has had no time to self tune. That is def water coming out of the pipes.

Re: My 406 with long tubes and ground clearance.

Looks and sounds good. I have the same headers waiting to go in myself. I am running a TH350 trans, so hopefully the install will be a bit easier over the T5.

although this is not all there is to it, the ground clearance is pretty impressive, especially for a 1.75" long tube.... any rattles or thumping?

there was some thumping but I tracked it down to the right side tailpipe after the muffler
