Dyno Don header gaskets

Looks like the Earl's gaskets he recommends are being discontinued - can't get replacement inserts for my gaskets.

I like the Remflex offerings but they don't seem to have a direct 1.5x1.5 round port gasket. They have 1.437 x 1.437 that says it's for weld bead style headers.

What's going to work? Earl's is dead to me if I can't get the inserts. Looks like Holley is pushing the Mr. Gasket products instead - more profit for cheaper chinese junk is what it seems. F**k you Holley.

I use Mr Gasket #150. 1.5" round ports. But they are just regular gaskets. I spray them with PAM cooking spray.

Isn't PAM just aerosol vegetable oil? If that works well then perhaps something that would withstand even greater temps would perform even better? Just a thought. I mean basically it's a lubricant and keeps the gasket from bonding to the metal right? We use this stuff for brake slide pins and it's good to 3000 degrees:

all i have to say is if you CAN find remflex gaskets, or the ones you posted about will work, GO WITH THEM. They have been the BEST header gaskets i have ever used in the past 9 years.

I'll call Remflex and see what I can find out. I'll also PM Don and ask him what he thinks. Obviously this is going to be an issue for his future customers going forward also.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

Those inserts and the Remflex have a D shaped port. Is that going to work with your headers?

That's the idea. I will have to try the Permatex stuff. Pam will still work for the carb gaskets.

The Remflex gaskets worked beautifully.

Torque to 20 Ft/lbs then retorque after a heat cycle.

I see you've found what you need.
Remflex does have a 1.5" round offering. 1 9/16ths actually (1.5625).
I've been using them with my RHS Vortecs. Possibly the best header gasket ever.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

Use the Remflex 2004 part number gaskets. Much better than MLS.

The DD headers are not really D port. More squarish. You can use either one.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

interesting. they recommend 2065 which looks like a d port, odd the headers are more square. I only saw one review on the ram tech and it trashed them pretty badly. which reminded me of every cheap composite I've used haha. but who knows what that person did.

I guess I'll try them. wonder if I should get the round 2004s or the 2065. I absolutely hate header leaks and changing gaskets. last time I went with some copper round gaskets and those bolts with the set screw in the middle that locks the bolts in place and they did well with the cheap headmans but don't exactly match the ports in the head, they hang over a bit on the top, or I'd just reuse the copper.

mls I've only used on newer ls and Ford stuff and always just reusing the factory and never had a issue. that's why I was thinking of trying the MLS cosmetic.

hmm

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

I own a performance shop and we use a LOT of Remflex (not Ram Tech - whatever that is) gaskets, and have never had a problem. As with anything you need proper tools and know how to use them.

Remflex is unlike anything you have used before. It is a compressible graphite gasket. Not a composite at all.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

I used the Earls "D" port inserts once,... This is the poorest fitting of the ports when using the "D" port inserts on MY set of DD headers....

Here's how they fit once they got trimmed:

That set has been installed for the last 4 years with no issues yet. Next time I'll probably go with the full faced replacement insert, then cut to fit.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

I am running the Earls gaskets for my setup with decent success... One thing to consider, that I think I have issues with, is the thickness of the gasket moving the headers out enough to change fitment. My passenger header is VERY close to the frame rail. If I could find a thinner gasket that sealed as well I would run it to help with my frame clearance.

Re: Dyno Don header gaskets

Felpro 1404 or 1405 with 1" long bolts work very well and don't break the bank. I've never had to replace a set and have used the same set on several different combos without issues.
