Dyno Don crossover tube heating oil pan?

Hello Dyno Don shorty header owners out there,

I’m considering his headers.
Have you found any issues with the Dyno Don headers y pipe excessively heating up the oil pan?
I’ve read that it can be a problem with some of the manufacturers, haven’t found anything yet regarding his.
Thanks.

Re: Dyno Don crossover tube heating oil pan?

Heating or hitting? Can an exhaust pipe really heat an oil pan more so than the temp of the oil and coolant already circulating in the block? Would not the air flow under the car largely negate the heating in most cases? Would it not make more sense to add an oil cooler if a person were really concerned?

Considering that every V8 in a thirdgen has the crossover pipe in the same place, I'm not seeing how this could really even begin to be considered a problem. ~23 years on the forum, don't recall ever reading about headers heating an oil pan.

I have ran into this issue under racing conditions. Easy fix I just wrapped the exhaust were it crossed under the pan lowered oil temp 20 degs.

Hope that helps.

Have owned these cars since '82, always had headers, always had a crossover. Right now I have a big engine, big crossover pipe, never had an oil temperature problem.
